Position Summary
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides clinical leadership, supervision, and oversight in the delivery of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services for individuals with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Connecticut. This role ensures services are person-centered, ethical, and compliant with Connecticut regulations, DSS/HUSKY requirements, commercial insurance standards, and BACB guidelines. The BCBA is responsible for assessment, treatment planning, staff supervision, and program development to support high-quality clinical outcomes.
Position Scope
This position operates within the Clinical Services/Behavioral Health function and supports ABA service delivery across assigned Connecticut regions. The BCBA works collaboratively with clinical staff, families, payers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective and compliant service provision. The role includes both direct service delivery and supervisory responsibilities and may support program expansion and operational initiatives.
Key Responsibilities The BCBA is responsible for conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), developing and overseeing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and supervising ABA therapists and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) to ensure high-quality, compliant service delivery. This role includes providing caregiver training, maintaining accurate and timely documentation, and supporting program development and quality assurance initiatives. The BCBA also assists with onboarding and training new staff, contributes to policy and workflow improvements, participates in interdisciplinary case discussions, and supports program growth and leadership initiatives as needed. Additional responsibilities include conducting assessments and evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, providing clinical supervision and feedback, documenting client progress and supervision activities, delivering direct ABA services when required, submitting reports and reauthorization requests, participating in audits and team meetings, supporting credentialing processes, and ensuring adherence to BACB ethical and professional standards.
Regulatory Frameworks
This role operates in compliance with Connecticut General Statutes §20-185i-u, DSS/HUSKY (Medicaid) requirements, commercial insurance policies, and the BACB Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts (2022). Additional compliance includes adherence to HIPAA, state healthcare regulations, and organizational policies.
Confidentiality
The BCBA is responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality of all client, employee, and organizational information in compliance with HIPAA and company policies. All protected health information (PHI) must be handled securely and ethically.
Documentation Requirements
This role requires accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of assessments, treatment plans, supervision sessions, progress notes, and reports. Documentation must meet payer, regulatory, and organizational standards and support billing, audits, and clinical outcomes.
Certifications
Active Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification in good standing is required. Additional certifications may be required based on payer or state-specific requirements.
Education
A Master's degree or higher in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Education, or a related field is required.
Experience
A minimum of 1-2 years of experience providing ABA services is required. Experience in clinical supervision, working with individuals with autism or IDD, and navigating Medicaid and commercial insurance requirements is preferred.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of ABA principles, FBAs, and BIPs is required. Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR), data collection systems, and Microsoft Office is expected. Ability to analyze data and generate clinical reports is essential.
Languages
Strong English verbal and written communication skills are required. Bilingual abilities may be preferred based on client population needs.
Driver License
A valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required based on service delivery needs.
Travel Requirement
Travel may be required within assigned regions in Connecticut to provide in-home, community-based, or clinic services. Flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends may be necessary based on client and program needs.
