Service Review Assistant, BERS

Description Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Service Review Assistant performs analytical and data correction tasks affecting members’ service history. Performs related work. Reports to: Service Review Supervisor Direct Reports: N/A Key Relationships: The Service Review Assistant works closely with staff throughout BERS and other City Retirement Systems. Responsibilities Review member records to ensure that summaries of accounting, reconciliation, calculation, and pension payroll data are accurate. Research and prepare detailed service and salary data. Ensure accuracy of member accounts and credited service regarding pension work history. Respond to service related inquiries which have been forwarded from other units. Keeps records, searches and updates files and retrieves information using computers and paper records. Participate in ad hoc data cleanup projects as identified within the Quality Assurance department. Qualification Requirements Minimum An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and either: two years of satisfactory full‑time experience performing analytical, administrative or customer service tasks; or one year of satisfactory full‑time experience performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial, or accounting computations in one or more of the following: a retirement or employee benefits plan; and/or for customer service in a financial institution; and/or in a position requiring the application of law, rules, and regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial, or similar tables; An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, economics, finance, data analytics, project management, business administration, public administration and/or actuarial science; or A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full‑time experience performing mathematical, statistical, actuarial, or accounting computations in one or more of the following: a retirement or employee benefits plan; and/or for customer service in a financial institution; and/or in a position requiring the application of law, rules, and regulations and the use of statistical, actuarial, or similar tables; or A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three years of satisfactory full‑time experience performing analytical, administrative or customer service tasks; or A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, "3" or “4” above. College education may be substituted for the experience described in “3” or “4” above on the basis that 30 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted six months of required experience. However, all candidates must possess a four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and either 9 semester credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting, economics, finance, data analytics, project management, business administration, public administration and/or actuarial science from an accredited college or one year of experience as described in “1” above. Plus, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of relevant work experience. Preferred Experience with APRL, CHRMS, EIS, PMS, and V3. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables and data analysis tools. (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
