Learn more about this agency Duties Help This Human Resources Assistant (OA) provides technical assistance and processing support to a team of human resources specialists and assistants who provide recruitment and placement, classification, employee relations, employee benefits, personnel action processing and other HR services for one or more assigned organizations. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Human Resources Assistant (OA) support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia, located in Washington, District of Columbia, focusing in the areas of recruitment and placement; processing personnel actions; office automation. Typical work assignments will include: Performing human resources assistance duties in recruitment and placement; classification; and/or employee benefits. Utilizing knowledge of the Empower HR (EHR) system to process the spectrum of personnel actions for team to include those of an unusual, unprecedented, or difficult nature such as assignments or details to state governments, foreign countries, or international organizations; and special appointments such as various student employment programs. Producing a variety of written documents utilizing varied and advanced functions in each of several types of office automation software, i.e., word processing, database management or spreadsheet. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: To qualify at the GS-06 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (2) of the (3) duties listed below: Providing assistance or responding to questions regarding human resources related topics; Utilizing human resources electronic tools and systems to process routine personnel actions (i.e. assignments, details, special appointments, etc.); Conducting basic research on personnel actions to resolve errors. Typing Proficiency: To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level. You must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted; recommended SF-50s include promotions and step increases (within grade increases). Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the Department of Justice requires each and every employee to be reliable and trustworthy.
