MRI Technologist

MRI Technologists are responsible to perform high quality MRI scans according to department protocols; under the supervision of a qualified Physician for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. Safety is the number one priority in MRI; therefore the technologist must screen the patient and anyone else before they can enter the magnetic field. The technologist provides direct patient care for all ages of patients. The technologist is to provide very good customer service; that is to treat every patient with respect, courtesy and explain the exam to the patient. The technologist must be able to work together with others providing a positive work environment. The technologists are responsible to provide a safe environment for the patients, fellow employees and themselves.

General requirements include adherence to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines, performing all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization, maintaining current knowledge in present areas of responsibility, attending staff meetings and completing mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time, demonstrating competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs, and wearing protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.

Working conditions include a general environment with moderate noise levels, exposure to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms, the ability to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure, periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads, and the possibility of being scheduled as needed including overtime.

Education requirements include a Vocational Technical Degree in Radiology Technology.

Experience requirements include 1 - 2 years MRI.

Certifications and licensures include Radiology Technologist (RT), Certified Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) (ARRT), Basic Life Support (BLS). Preferred certifications include Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

General skills include organizational skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, customer relations, analytical skills, grammar/spelling, reading/comprehending written instructions, following verbal instructions, basic computer skills, and general clerical skills.

Physical requirements include good manual dexterity. Physical demands include standing occasionally within shift, walking occasionally within shift, sitting frequently within shift, bending/stooping occasionally within shift, twisting at waist occasionally within shift, and pushing/pulling occasionally within shift.
