Part-time Resident Engagement Specialist

Position Overview Organization: Empower Community Development Corporation (CDC) Location: Houston, TX 77011 Position Type: Part‑Time Hours: 14–18 hours per week Pay: $17–$19 per hour Empower Community Development Corporation, (EMPOWER CDC) is seeking a creative, energetic, and community‑minded Resident Engagement Specialist (RES) to support residents at a multifamily housing community in the Houston area. The RES serves as Empower CDC's primary on‑site representative, helping create a connected, supportive community for residents, while ensuring required supportive services are delivered successfully. The primary responsibility of this position is planning and facilitating approximately 12 hours of after‑school programming each week for youth residents. Additional responsibilities include coordinating resident engagement activities, supporting community events and services, building partnerships with local organizations, and maintaining documentation required for program compliance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Youth Programming Plan and facilitate approximately 12 hours of educational and enrichment after‑school programming each week for youth residents. Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that encourages participation and personal growth. Resident Engagement & Supportive Services Coordinate and facilitate supportive services required by the property's Land Use Restrictive Agreement (LURA), including: Weekly exercise activities Twice‑monthly arts and crafts activities Monthly food pantry distributions Annual health fair Welcome new residents and help connect them with available programs and resources. Prepare and distribute monthly birthday greetings to residents. Community Partnerships & Administration Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, nonprofits, volunteers, and service providers that support resident programming. Maintain sign‑in sheets, attendance records, supportive services documentation, and compliance‑related files. Submit required reports and documentation in a timely manner. Qualifications and Skills Experience working with children or youth in after‑school programs, education, recreation, mentoring, camps, childcare, or similar settings. Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate engaging activities for diverse age groups. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva, or similar tools preferred. Spanish language proficiency preferred but not required. Reliable transportation required. Education and Training Requirements Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Human Services, Recreation, Behavioral Science, or a related field preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth, families, resident services, community engagement, or related programs preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and actively participate in youth and community activities. Ability to lift and carry program supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to occasionally work evenings or special events as needed. Schedule Regular on‑site availability for after‑school programming on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons. Remaining hours are generally dedicated to administrative responsibilities, including program preparation, documentation, partner coordination, and purchasing supplies.
