POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pipelayer Laborer performs manual labor tasks to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground pipelines. May include preparing job sites, handling materials, and assisting skilled pipelayers with the placement and alignment of pipe systems. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the supervision of a higher-level operations or maintenance employee, perform a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and installation of utility systems and associated facilities
• Assist pipelayers, equipment operators, and other tradespeople with utility installation and repair work
• Clean and prepare worksites by removing debris, excavated materials, and equipment
• Handle, transport, and stage materials such as pipe, fittings, cement, and aggregates
• Use hand tools and power tools such as shovels, saws, drills, and tampers
• Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks including digging, trenching, backfilling, and stacking materials
• Place and maintain warning signs, barricades, and traffic control devices to ensure jobsite safety
• Assist with setting up and dismantling temporary structures, such as trench boxes, shoring, and scaffolding
• Maintain awareness of underground utilities and jobsite hazards to prevent damage or injury
• Report equipment malfunctions, hazards, or unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately
• Perform other labor-related duties as assigned in support of utility operations

QUALIFICATIONS :

•Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions.
•Responsible for the health and safety of others. Practices good safety habits.
•Perform a variety of duties which may often change.
•Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
•Repeat tasks of short duration according to a sect procedure.
•Knowledge of trade tools, equipment, materials, methods, and techniques.
•On-the-job training required. May require driver’s license.
•Minimum OSHA 10 required.
•Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, walk, and work at heights for extendedperiods of time.
•Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.
•Lift and carry materials, sometimes weighing 50 to 100 pounds.
•Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects while carrying tools and equipment.
•Must always wear protective or safety equipment, i.e., safety boots/shoes, glasses, gloves, hearingprotection, and hard hats and follow safety guidelines.
