Laboratory Technical Specialist

Technology Lab SpecialistThe Technology Lab Specialist is responsible for maintaining and managing the school's computer lab. The Technology Specialist oversees the campus's computer lab with oversight by site administration in conjunction with the site leadership team. They supervise students and assist with other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, student supervision responsibilities such as playground, lunchroom, arrival, dismissal, and crossing guard duties. Exposure to heat, sun, varying temperatures, and outdoor conditions is a routine part of the work assignment.QualificationsA High School Diploma or equivalent is requiredSixty (60) college credit hours and/or an Associate Arts Degree or higher is preferredIn lieu of an AA degree, provide evidence of a passing score on the Paraprofessional AssessmentValid IVP Fingerprint Clearance CardPossession of an Arizona Substitute certificate or willingness and eligibility to obtain oneProficient with the use of technology, Chromebooks, tablets, desktops, and standard office and educational software, including Google Workspace, Word, ExcelWilling to learn and open to exploring alternate educational resources at the request of administrationKnowledge of standard office equipment (telephones, copiers, printers)Familiarity or willingness to learn and master site-specific software used to support students during instruction, and to develop knowledge of technology as it relates to educationProficient in the English language (reading, writing, and oral communication)Knowledge of Spanish preferredAbility to comprehend and follow directions from written and verbal instructionsKnowledge of arithmetic and basic mathematical proceduresAbility to prioritize work, adhere to time restraints, and attend to multiple tasks on a variety of issuesEffective communication and interpersonal skillsAble to perform duties requiring physical demands, such as reaching, bending, kneelingAble to stand for extended periods throughout the majority of the work day, including outside dutiesPrior experience working with children in an educational setting is preferredAbility and willingness to perform student supervision duties, including outside and lunchroom dutiesMust be able to lift and/or carry up to 30 poundsEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOversee student instruction and independent work in computer classesAbility and willingness to work with a variety of age levels (Pre-K - eighth grade) in the technology settingSet up computers and software for incoming classes, maintaining a clean and professional learning environmentContribute to the overall positive climate of the school through all actions and interactionsReport any concerns about student safety to the administrationPreparation of instructional materials as neededAssist with beginning of the year and end of year procedures, including inventory, distribution of materialsCover for other adults in the event of staffing shortage as directedDistribute, collect, and manage documentation as appropriateProvide whole-group direction, assist children individually and in small groups to help reinforce learning concepts presented by teachersWork with teachers and staff to develop strategies for effective use of the computer lab or classroom computer instruction as appropriateInstruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materialsReinforce safe and age-appropriate computer use and closely monitor students during instructional timeProvide appropriate guidance on computer safety, supervise internet use to ensure students are only accessing approved and educationally relevant sitesUse positive strategies to maintain student engagementSet clear expectations and enforce school, classroom, and computer lab rules andMaintain a pleasant and inviting computer lab space with positive messaging and instructional references posted as appropriateAssist with the administration of student assessments as requestedAssist with the installation of hardware and software as requestedEstablish a preventative maintenance schedule for the school's computer labIdentify, diagnose, and resolve minor computer problemsReport computer and/or printer problems to the site principal, or complete Technology Work Orders promptlyParticipate and assist with student activities as directed, to include special events, evening events (as is possible), assemblies, and student incentivesAttend and participate in staff meetings, grade-level meetings, and any other group function as directed by site administrationFunction as a classroom substitute when directedEstablish and maintain effective relationships with administration, students, and all school personnelParticipate in district-sponsored professional development workshops/in-services, attend ongoing training classes as directedMaintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel and student and family records and/or informationSupport and enforce school rules, regulations, and policies set by the School Board, the assigned school, and the DistrictRefer concerns regarding student safety to the classroom teacher and or site administrationPerform all other duties as assigned by the Governing School Board, the Principal, or designeeLength of Employment:Nine (9) monthsSchool calendar will determine the days worked during the school yearReports to: Building PrincipalEvaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Governing Board Policy GDO
