Legal AssistantCreates the legal file after referral of litigation from the HIC Claims DepartmentsEnters the data into the legal computer systemDiaries the date the legal document is due and assigns the staff attorney according to prearranged assignment directivesFollows up to make sure the attorney timely responds, i.e. prepares the answer, motion, opposition papers, etc.Prepares and serves legal documents in accordance with the assigned attorney's instructionsObtain extensions of time to answer the summonses and complaintsPrepares the cover letter and stipulations to extend the time to answerTypes and serves the answers to the summonses and complaintsTypes and serves letters, motions, orders, subpoenas, discovery responses, etc. Prepares exhibitsMakes copies of legal documents and mail for claims departmentCloses legal files and enters data into legal computer systemAssist in prepping a case for trial, arbitration, hearingEditing legal forms and documents and prepare and serve legal documentsResponds to inquiries and provides information as appropriate to outside counsel, clients and claims department regarding legal matters/casesPrepares and serves discovery demands, Responds to discovery demandsIn general, performs various legal tasks to assist the attorneys in defending the lawsuitsQualifications5 plus years of experience in the related fields preferredParalegal certificate preferred
