Title: Accountant State Role Title: Financial Services Spec I Hiring Range: $64,399 - $73,043 Pay Band: 4 Agency: Virginia Department of Health Location: Dept of Health Agency Website: Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties Performs professional level work of moderate difficulty requiring the application of accounting theory and principles. Characteristic duties: develop methods of recording fiscal transactions, allocate funds, update and maintain accounting systems, independently prepare financial statements/reports/cost analyses, and develop and present budgets and other financial information for review. Other major duties: all functions of compensation accounting including assuring timely processing of payrolls, distribution of checks, preparing federal/state tax reporting, fringe benefits and premium conversion. May supervise or lead fiscal paraprofessionals and/or other support personnel. The Accountant within the Commissioners Office plays a central role in ensuring the financial integrity, transparency, and operational efficiency of the agency. This position supports core financial functions- such as reconciliations, reporting, compliance, and budget monitoring while serving as a trusted resource to leadership and program teams across the department. Minimum Qualifications Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices including cost accounting. Knowledge of the use of data processing techniques in maintaining accounting records. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt established accounting methods to a variety of financial transactions and records and multiple funding streams. Demonstrated ability to design and compile financial reports and statements.
