Building Maintenance Worker - Hourly

Position Overview Part‑time custodial position with the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department. The position is not to exceed 1,039 hours per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) and is performed under general supervision. Key Duties Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, buffers and carpet extractors. Clean and sanitize hard floors, under bleachers, facility restrooms, auditorium floors, seats, windows, fixtures, mirrors and carpets. Empty trash, stock supplies and maintain a tidy environment. Remove litter and debris from walkways and grounds. Move and arrange furniture and A/V equipment for meetings and special functions. Operate City vehicles to transport materials and assist other staff as required. Supervise facility security and provide customer service. Follow standard office procedures, including use of a computer. Work Schedule May require early morning, afternoon, evening, late night, swing shift, on‑call and weekend hours. Employees must be available for evenings, weekends and on‑call periods. Typical Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or GED. Professional cleaning experience preferred. Hospitality industry experience preferred. Certifications (within specified time after hire) Crowd Manager Certification – within 15 days of hire. CPR/First Aid Certification – within 6 months of hire. Mandated Reporting: Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Safe work practices. Basic arithmetic and understanding of ratios. Ability to use and maintain hand and power tools. Follow oral and written directions. Prepare basic records of work performed. Read and communicate basic English. Read and comprehend business English, including spelling, grammar, punctuation. Physical Demands & Working Environment Regular standing, reaching, lifting up to 50 lb, use of motorized equipment, exposure to crowds, sound, lighting and sports equipment.
