The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager to support construction projects throughout the Houston area.

This position is suited to an experienced Project Coordinator, a technically strong Project Engineer ready to transition into project management, or an Assistant Project Manager seeking greater project ownership. The successful candidate must understand construction work, communicate confidently with the client's Project Manager, and effectively administer the documentation and contractual requirements of active projects.

The position will be based in our Houston office and will require regular project-site visits generally once every one to two weeks to review progress, understand field conditions and remain connected with the project team.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Coordination and Client Communication

• Support projects from preconstruction and mobilization through construction and closeout.
• Serve as a key point of contact for the client's Project Manager and maintain clear, professional and timely communication.
• Coordinate project requirements between clients, internal teams, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
• Participate in client and project meetings, prepare meeting minutes and follow up on assigned actions.
• Provide clear updates on project progress, risks, outstanding decisions and required client input.
• Review drawings, specifications and field information to identify conflicts, missing details and potential construction issues.

Project Documentation and Contract Administration

• Prepare, submit and track RFIs, submittals, transmittals, change documentation and other project correspondence.
• Draft and maintain required contractual notices concerning delays, changes, differing site conditions and other project events.
• Ensure notices and project communications are issued accurately and within contractual time requirements.
• Maintain complete and organized project records, including current drawings, specifications, logs, meeting records and correspondence.
• Assist with change orders, purchase orders, subcontract agreements and potential change items.
• Review subcontractor invoices, payment applications and supporting documentation.
• Track project commitments, costs, changes and outstanding commercial matters.
• Support project closeout, including punch-list completion, turnover documents, warranties and final records.

Scheduling and Field Support

• Assist with project schedules, look-ahead plans, progress updates and milestone tracking.
• Coordinate with superintendents and field teams to address design, material, subcontractor and scheduling issues.
• Monitor material and equipment lead times and communicate potential impacts before they affect the work.
• Visit Houston-area project sites approximately once every one to two weeks, or more frequently when project needs require.
• Review site progress and field conditions, confirm alignment with project documentation and follow up on outstanding issues.
• Help identify schedule, cost, quality and contractual risks and work with the project team to develop practical solutions.
• Support project quality, safety and contractual compliance requirements.

Qualifications :

• Approximately 3–5 years of experience in construction project coordination, project engineering or assistant project management.
• Bachelor's degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or a related field is preferred; equivalent construction experience will also be considered.
• Strong practical understanding of construction sequencing, field operations, drawings, specifications and contract requirements.
• Experience managing RFIs, submittals, contractual notices, change orders and project correspondence.
• Ability to communicate confidently with client representatives, subcontractors, consultants, field teams and senior leadership.
• Experience supporting project budgets, schedules, procurement and subcontractor coordination.
• Strong writing skills and attention to detail, particularly when preparing contractual correspondence and project notices.
• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities, deadlines and documentation requirements.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction-management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project is preferred.
• OSHA training or another relevant construction-safety certification is considered an asset.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout the Houston area.
