Overview Within the Department of Student Services and under the supervision of the Coordinator of Diagnostic Support Services, and in coordination with building principals and other staff, the School Psychologist provides diagnostic and consultative psychological services in accordance with Board policy and standards set by professional psychological organizations. Essential Functions Consults and collaborates with parents, school staff, and outside agency personnel regarding the psycho‑educational needs of students, their implications, and means of intervening. Conducts multifactorial psychological and psycho‑educational assessments of children and youth, using a variety of standardized and non‑standardized instruments and procedures; assessed areas include social‑emotional adjustment, cognition, academic achievement, language and communication skills, learning styles, sensory and perceptual‑motor functioning, adaptive behavior, and environmental cultural influences. Participates in facilitating the design and development of building‑level procedures to prevent educational failure and to meet the mental health and learning needs of students. Communicates and collaborates in developing positive relationships among students, parents, and teachers, involving them in assessment, intervention, and program evaluation procedures. Provides, as appropriate, direct and indirect psychological interventions—facilitating individual and group counseling, implementing behavioral management strategies, and designing intervention programs to enhance cognitive, affective, social, and vocational development in the school environment. Initiates, expedites, and manages referrals to other agencies and specialists as necessary. Interprets the steps and processes involved in implementing Board policies and relevant laws for determining student program and service needs. Develops and assists in in‑service and skill‑enhancement activities for school personnel, parents, and others in the school and district, where appropriate. May consult with program staff on designing and interpreting research to improve program effectiveness within the school setting. Performs related duties as assigned.
