Salary: $63,507.00 – $67,375.00 Position Summary: Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of State laws and Municipal ordinances. Work assignments and instructions are received in general terms from a superior officer who reviews work methods and results through reports, observations, and discussions. Patrols an assigned geographic area identifying and apprehending criminal violators. Ensures free flow of traffic and maintains public order and safety. May be assigned to Uniform Patrol, Patrol Support, or other specialized departmental activity. Essential Functions: Answers radio calls for all types of police service. Patrols assigned geographic area to identify and deter criminal activity and public safety hazards. Arrests criminal and traffic violators, issues citations, and testifies in legal proceedings. Conducts investigations of criminal offenses, missing persons, and all public safety incidents. Conducts preliminary investigations at the scene of crimes and accidents, and administers first aid when needed. Gathers evidence and processes crime scenes as directed. Conducts interviews of victims or witnesses and interrogates suspects. Testifies as a witness in court proceedings. Investigates traffic accidents. Writes reports of offenses, accidents, arrests, and other public safety incidents. Directs traffic and renders first aid. Intervenes and mediates in crisis situations and all types of disputes. Performs building and residence security checks. Provides high law enforcement visibility to deter crime and inspire community sense of security. Gives information and provides assistance to motorists and the public. Checks and reports on deficient street lights, signs, road surfaces, or other facilities that serve the public. Establishes traffic control and police protection at the scene of incidents that may attract crowds. Refers citizens with non-law enforcement problems to appropriate social service agencies. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Requirements: Certification as a police officer of a Missouri First Class County (Class A Post License) Possess a Missouri Driver’s License at time of appointment High school graduate or possess a G.E.D. Must be a Citizen of the United States and a Missouri resident at time of appointment. Applicant must be at least 21 years of age to apply.
