Registered Respiratory Therapist

The Registered Respiratory Therapist provides and administers all aspects of Respiratory Care Therapy and supportive equipment as stated in the Department Policy and Procedure Manual. Providing respiratory therapy under medical direction in the education, treatment, management, and diagnostic evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system. Performing intubation assistance as well as ventilator setup and management. Gathering all information necessary to properly evaluate patient needs, including patient-specific disease education as well as testing and consultations with other healthcare professionals, as appropriate. Developing rapport and mutual respect with patients/caregivers, as well as team members, to foster an optimal environment in support of goal achievement. Providing and documenting education to patients/caregivers based upon identified needs in an understandable manner. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Adhering to organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Lifting a minimum of 5 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 5 lbs., and standing a minimum of 1 hour a day are required. Regular contact with medical personnel and visitors is expected. Must be willing to float to adult ICU areas, intermediate care, and Basic intermediate care floor. The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs is essential. A strong sense of accountability for improving the lives of patients and their caregivers is crucial. An exceptional focus on teamwork and the ability and passion to deliver the highest quality of care are required.
