Construction Inspector II

Overview GFT is seeking a Construction Inspector II to join our Construction Services Team in St. Louis, MO. We oversee every construction phase to help ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. Responsibilities This is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced, motivated Construction Inspector who thrives in a collaborative team environment. This individual inspects and oversees construction work to ensure results, procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications. The individual will serve as a daily point of contact with clients and contractors, and manage all aspects of a project including construction observations, material testing, and maintaining documentation. Measure distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts. Verify levels, alignment, and elevation of installations. Observe work in progress to ensure that procedures followed, and materials used conform to specifications. Prepare samples of materials for laboratory testing. Examine workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and approve installation. Interpret plans and specifications for the contractor and discuss deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction. Record quantities of materials received or used during specific periods, develop pay estimates and change orders. Maintain daily log of construction and inspection activities and compare progress reports. Monitor several types of work activity, however not simultaneously. Maintain construction safety practices and work methods for compliance. Manage documents using electronic platforms such as AASHTOWare, e-Builder, or Transport. Education & Experience High school diploma. 5-10 years of construction inspection experience. Experience in construction, inspection, material testing, or transportation engineering for highway projects structures on state MODOT, municipal, and/or municipal projects. A safety‑first mindset. Strong writing, listening and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications ACI Field and/or Strength, Troxler or similar state MODOT certification are recommended, but not required. Ability to work collaboratively with peers, clients and contractors to solve problems and conflicts. Ability and desire to lead. Compensation The salary range for this role is $23.00 - $32.00 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location. Benefits Hybrid (in-person and remote) work environment.
