Cost Accounting Director

CooperDouglas is partnering with a rapidly scaling, VC‑backed aerospace manufacturing platform in seeking a Director of Cost Accounting to build and lead the cost accounting function across a growing portfolio of acquired companies. Founded in 2024, the company quickly gained traction with substantial venture backing and an aggressive acquisition strategy for tackling one of aerospace's biggest structural challenges. This role offers a unique chance to step into a high-growth, founder-driven organization where you’ll design and implement cost accounting frameworks from scratch, streamline and upgrade financial processes, and play a key role in shaping the financial backbone of a complex, multi-entity manufacturing business. Responsibilities Take full ownership of cost accounting across a growing network of operating entities. Design and roll out standard costing practices, including inventory tracking, bill of materials structures, and time-study frameworks. Drive the implementation of Epicor with a focus on manufacturing, inventory, and cost accounting functionality. Build scalable, GAAP-aligned processes for consolidations, inventory accounting, and month-end close. Evaluate newly acquired businesses, identify gaps, and integrate them into a consistent financial and operational model. Collaborate closely with site leadership and operations teams to improve financial visibility and discipline. Help position the business for future government contract requirements, including DCAA readiness. Play a key role in preparing for external audit and establishing internal controls across legacy environments. Provide guidance to distributed accounting teams and utilize offshore resources to optimize transactional workflows. Visit operating sites as needed to support implementation efforts and ensure consistency across locations. Requirements Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field CPA is a plus Demonstrated experience driving cost accounting strategy in a complex, multi-site manufacturing environment (Aerospace or similar manufacturing environment preferred). Experience with standard and periodic costing, inventory accounting, BOMs, labor allocation, and cost modeling. Ability to transition processes toward a perpetual inventory system to improve accuracy and strengthen month-end reporting Ability to build processes from scratch in a fragmented, multi‑entity environment. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to translate complex cost concepts to non‑finance leaders.
