Custodian

Hutchinson Public Schools is looking for full time night custodians. This position starts at $16.00 and is commensurate with education and experience.

Keep premises of school building in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.

Includes the following. Other duties as assigned.

• Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, stairways and other work areas
• Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors
• Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies
• Dust furniture and equipment
• Polish metalwork
• Wash walls, ceiling, and woodwork
• Wash windows, door panels, and sills
• Empty wastebaskets
• Transport trash and waste to disposal area
• Replenish bathroom supplies
• Replace light bulbs
• Shovel snow
• Transport small equipment or tools between departments
• Set up tables and chairs in auditorium or hall
• Participate in summer team cleaning as directed
• Perform preventative maintenance checks on cleaning equipment

This position may consist of supervising student help; otherwise, it has no supervisory responsibilities.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weigh measurement, volume, and distance.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
