Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make an impact supporting students with visual impairments in a dynamic K-12 environment for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time contract opportunity is available for two dedicated professionals skilled in serving visually impaired learners. Highly qualified part-time applicants may also be considered for flexible scheduling options.
Immerse yourself in a collaborative and well-supported setting, where your expertise in Braille, assistive technology, and best instructional practices will foster greater independence and academic success for students. Caseloads are thoughtfully divided across elementary, middle, and high school levels, giving you the chance to build lasting relationships and ensure seamless support over time. These itinerant roles are designed to minimize travel, with school assignments clustered within close geographic areas.
Experience the satisfaction of varied, meaningful work as you serve both general education students and those in specialized settings who may have additional disabilities. The district enhances efficiency with the TN Pulse platform for IEP management, ensuring you play an active part in developing, writing, and implementing IEPs.
Qualifications:
- Valid and current DOE certification
- Minimum five years of experience as a Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired required for virtual consideration
- Proficient in Braille and a range of assistive technologies
- Knowledge of accessing assistive tech through the Federal Quota program preferred
- Ability and willingness to travel among assigned schools
- Dedicated to collaborative IEP planning and delivery
- Must obtain fingerprint clearance per regulations
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and consultation for K-12 students with visual impairments
- Ensure students can access curriculum and technology, including Chromebooks
- Participate proactively in the development and monitoring of IEPs
- Serve multiple school sites within closely situated areas, with travel minimized
