CTE Academic Teacher - Physical Therapy Aide

Job Summary The Physical Therapy Aide Instructor is a key member of the Career Technical Education teaching team, reporting directly to the Director of Career Technical Education. The instructor delivers entry- and mid-level training for students preparing for careers as physical therapy aides, covering foundational concepts in physical therapy support, kinesiology, and rehabilitation practices. Instruction includes healthcare technology and applications, such as electronic health records and patient documentation systems, while emphasizing career readiness, professional communication, and workplace skills. Topics/Areas of Focus Covered in This Course Foundations of Physical Therapy Aide & Kinesiology Core concepts, daily operations, logistics, and current industry trends Healthcare Technology & Applications Proficiency in essential computer tools (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, EHR systems) Introduction to patient documentation software and digital communication platforms Career Readiness Pathways Guiding students to identify employment interests, explore opportunities, and understand the healthcare job market Professional Development & Workplace Skills Job search strategies, resume creation, and interview preparation Workplace etiquette, professional communication, and interpersonal skills Time management and strategies for thriving in healthcare work environments Job Duties and Responsibilities Facilitate courses in the Physical Therapy healthcare pathway Create and maintain an engaging learning environment Research, create, and update instructional materials as needed Maintain student attendance and academic progress records Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback based on learning objectives Adhere to policies regarding student retention and re‑engagement Maintain regular office hours to advise and assist students Attend CTE Team and CTE Advisory Committee meetings Provide support to other instructors as needed to support the overall CTE program Model professional standards of the healthcare industry Develop partnerships with community‑based organizations, industry leaders, and other mentors to provide student opportunities Manage student records in the Student Information System timely and accurately Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of Physical Therapy and healthcare frameworks Knowledge of project‑based learning Ability to apply general pedagogical knowledge to the physical therapy and kinesiology curriculum Ability to adapt curricular material to students with varying abilities Advanced proficiency with Zoom, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and relevant databases Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information Education and Work Experience Previous teaching experience required Valid California CTE Teaching Credential in Health Science and Medical Technology At least five years of experience in a related field Physical Requirements Must wear provided PPE and adhere to all safety guidelines when required Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and sitting Frequent talking and hearing conversations Occasional reaching with hands and arms Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs Ability to follow oral directions in emergency situations Travel to multiple sites required Ability to instruct for 2½–3 hours without a break Ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions—heat, cold, rain, etc. Frequently using arms and hands for writing on chalkboards or flip charts Additional Requirements Satisfactory results of a Live Scan (criminal background investigation) Successful clearance for positions working in county jails or probation locations Proof of clear TB results dated within 60 days prior to hire date Work Environment Willing and able to work in a correctional facility and travel throughout the area to community sites Work environment varies from site to site Outdoors/indoors settings with moderate noise level Some personal safety risk working in underserved communities Benefits Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance premiums paid by Five Keys; pre‑tax flexible spending account and 403(b) retirement account; generous time off; annual reimbursement up to $100 for gym membership, smoking cessation, and weight loss programs; up to $50 for annual athletic event participation and massage after six months of employment; free access to wellness apps, Employee Assistance Program, and a comprehensive mental health care platform for the employee and dependents. For the 2025‑2026 school year the position will work seven hours per day, 35 hours per week, with 195 working days annually.
