Why This Role Matters In this position, you’ll play a crucial role in advancing geospatial and data technologies that improve situational awareness, optimize emergency response, and drive smarter decision-making. From conducting complex geospatial analyses to streamlining data flows, your expertise will help firefighters and emergency managers protect communities and ecosystems across the state. What You’ll Do Develop and enhance data-driven solutions that improve wildfire response and resource management. Conduct advanced geospatial analyses to address complex wildfire and natural resource challenges. Automate workflows to maximize efficiency and improve response times. Communicate insights effectively through reports, visualizations, and interactive platforms. Compile, process, and manage complex tabular, vector, and raster data sources in support of analyses and applications. Support division collaboration and program messaging through application of latest technology. Participate in agency’s geospatial working group, professional development, and collaborate with other agency programs in TAMFS. Occasionally support emergency response operations as requested, which may include working extended hours and weekends. Required qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, emergency management, or related field of study. • Minimum of 4 years in geospatial analysis, statistical analysis, or similar, in either an academic or professional setting. An advanced degree may substitute for experience. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including geospatial data management, workflow design, and data visualization, with emphasis on supporting project requirements and emergency management applications. • Working knowledge of relational database concepts. • Proficiency with geospatial tools, especially ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related applications including Survey123, Field Maps, Experience Builder, and Operations Dashboard. • Strong Python programming skills. • Familiarity with Azure Functions ( triggers, timer triggers, and queue triggers) and Logic Apps. • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office. • Ability to work independently, manage projects, exercise sound judgment, and solve complex problems. • Ability and desire to stay current with new developments and standards in geospatial technology, analysis, and emergency management applications. • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, using oral, written, and visual methods. • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills. Preferred qualifications: Graduate degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, emergency management, or related field of study. Experience or interest in natural resources, particularly forestry, wildfire science, fire ecology, or emergency management. Familiarity with dashboards and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI). Exposure to workflow automation and cloud-based platforms (e.g. Azure, Power Automate), or database management. Experience with additional programming languages, statistical tools, or machine learning. Opportunities: Grow professionally by attending conferences and utilizing learning resources.
