The nurse supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned nursing staff. Coordination of care with other disciplines is vital while employing critical thinking and independent judgment. Essential functions include the collection of relevant data regarding the patient's health or situation. The nurse analyzes assessment data to determine diagnoses and care issues. A plan is developed that prescribes interventions to attain desired outcomes. The plan is implemented, and care delivery is coordinated effectively. Strategies are employed to promote health and maintain a safe environment. Evaluation of progress toward achieving outcomes is a crucial aspect of the role. Collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare providers is necessary to provide safe and humane care. Offering learning opportunities for patients, family members, and team members is encouraged. Involvement in discharge planning ensures continuity of care following hospitalization. The nurse delegates appropriately and coordinates the duties of healthcare team members. Additional job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
