Deputy Communications Director

Rob Sand's campaign for governor is seeking a Deputy Communications Director to join our Communications team. The Deputy Communications Director will help oversee the Communications Department and work closely with senior-level staff to implement and execute communications planning and strategies, drive messaging, and help manage staff.

The ideal candidate will have excellent writing, proofreading, and communications skills; two cycles or equivalent of previous communications or campaign experience and previous principal management experience; a strong work ethic; the ability to work well with a team and in a fast-paced environment. Iowa ties or experience working in the state preferred but not required.

Job Responsibilities:

• Work alongside the Communications Director/Deputy Campaign Manager to develop and execute communications strategy and tactics in line with the campaign's overall message.
• Prep principals such as the candidate for governor and candidate for lieutenant governor.
• Drive the campaign's message through various communications channels.
• Travel with and staff the candidate for events, interviews, and other media appearances.
• Build and maintain relationships with in-state and national press.
• Help manage Communications Department staff.
• Serve as an on-the-record spokesperson for the campaign.

Qualifications:

• Two cycles of campaign experience or equivalent and previous principal management experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to meet tight deadlines
• Work well in a group in and across departments
• Capacity and willingness to work nights and weekends in keeping with campaign schedule

Anticipated Start Date: April 1, 2026

Salary & benefits: $7,000/month. Employee-covered health insurance provided.

Rob Sand for Iowa and Teamsters Local 238 have a collective bargaining agreement and this position is bargaining unit eligible.
