Basic Requirements : All applicants must meet the following basic qualifications. United States Citizenship : Must be a US Citizen. Education . A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university Certification . Candidates must meet one of the certification options below: Generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or American Medical Technologist (AMT), - OR - Generalist certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP BOR) or AMT, - OR - Categorical certification or Specialist certification by ASCP or AMT English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Grade Determinations : In addition to the basic requirements for employment, candidates must meet the following grade-determining criteria for placement at grade levels specified.
