Custodian Position at Gaishin Manufacturing

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and professional environment throughout the facility. This position performs routine cleaning and custodial duties in office, employee common areas, restrooms, and designated manufacturing areas. The Custodian plays an important role in supporting workplace safety, employee wellbeing, facility appearance, and Gaishin Manufacturing's commitment to maintaining a high-quality manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Office & Common Areas

• Clean and maintain offices, conference rooms, reception areas, hallways, break rooms, and other common areas.
• Vacuum, sweep, mop, and clean floors as needed.
• Dust and wipe desks, tables, furniture, windowsills, doors, and other surfaces.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners.
• Clean interior windows, glass doors, and entry areas.
• Maintain break rooms, including cleaning counters, tables, sinks, appliances, and other shared surfaces.
• Replenish paper products, soap, hand sanitizer, and other facility supplies.

Restrooms & Locker Areas

• Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, countertops, mirrors, partitions, floors, and fixtures.
• Restock toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other restroom supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness of employee locker rooms and changing areas.
• Identify and report plumbing, fixture, or facility issues requiring repair.

Manufacturing & Production Areas

• Sweep, mop, and clean designated production-floor areas, aisles, walkways, and workspaces.
• Empty trash and recycling containers throughout manufacturing areas.
• Clean employee work areas and common surfaces as directed without disrupting production activities.
• Assist with cleanup of non-hazardous spills in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Maintain clearly marked aisles, entrances, exits, and walking surfaces free of unnecessary debris.
• Clean around equipment and machinery only when authorized and when equipment is in a safe condition for cleaning.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures when working near machinery, forklifts, chemicals, or manufacturing operations.

Facility Support

• Monitor custodial supplies and notify the appropriate supervisor when inventory needs replenishment.
• Properly store cleaning chemicals, equipment, and supplies.
• Follow Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements and manufacturer instructions for cleaning chemicals.
• Assist with seasonal facility needs, including entrance cleanup, salt/debris removal, and other general housekeeping duties.
• Identify and promptly report unsafe conditions, maintenance concerns, leaks, damage, or needed repairs.
• Assist with facility projects, deep cleaning, and special cleaning assignments as needed.
• Maintain custodial equipment in clean and working condition.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and required PPE guidelines.
• Use cleaning chemicals and equipment according to established procedures.
• Properly label and store chemicals and cleaning supplies.
• Place appropriate warning signage around wet floors or cleaning areas.
• Remain alert to forklift traffic, machinery, production activity, and other hazards within manufacturing areas.
• Immediately report spills, hazards, injuries, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions.
• Do not operate, clean inside, or perform maintenance on production machinery unless specifically trained and authorized to do so.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, facilities, or industrial cleaning experience preferred.
• Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment is helpful but not required.

• Ability to work independently and manage assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.

• Ability to safely use basic custodial equipment and cleaning products.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality when working in offices or around company information.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Frequently bend, reach, stoop, squat, and perform repetitive motions.
• Push and pull cleaning carts, vacuums, mop buckets, and similar equipment.
• Lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Safely use step stools or ladders when required.
• Work in both office and manufacturing environments.
• Work around normal manufacturing noise, machinery, oils, coolants, cleaning products, and varying temperatures.
• Wear required personal protective equipment when entering designated manufacturing areas.

Work Environment

This position works throughout an active precision manufacturing facility and office environment. The employee may be exposed to manufacturing noise, moving equipment, forklifts, metalworking operations, oils, coolants, dust, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures.

Required personal protective equipment may include safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, gloves, or other PPE depending on the work area.
