Medical Science Liaison, CNS Position Overview As an integral member of the ecosystem team for Otsuka's ecosystem-based customer engagement model, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) contributes to the development of the ecosystem strategic business plan and identifies key stakeholders that are vital to the ecosystem. The MSL is a credible partner responsible for providing clinical, scientific, and health economic information related to CNS disease states and the appropriate utilization of approved Otsuka products within an ecosystem. This field-based position will engage with Key Influencers (KIs), Local Practice Leaders (LPLs), healthcare providers, and patients' groups within their ecosystem to further patient outcomes aligned with Otsuka's overarching objectives. MSLs contribute to customizing the regional business strategy, meet local ecosystem needs, and are responsible for the medical and educational requirements of their customers. They may also cover multiple products within the CNS therapeutic area and engage in broad clinical and scientific discussions. Key Activities and Responsibilities Contribute a clinical and scientific perspective to the local execution plan that addresses customer challenges, issues, and opportunities to improve patient care and outcomes, including coordination of field activities. Build, cultivate, and leverage external relationships with key scientific and medical customers and organizations within the territory to support evolving healthcare trends, disease states, and Otsuka products, including KIs, LPLs, KDMs, and Patient Advocacy. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the ecosystem to align with Otsuka's patient‑centric strategy and priorities. Serve as a credible evidence‑based resource that demonstrates value from clinical, economic, and humanistic perspectives and partners with providers and stakeholders to apply practical solutions. Build and maintain important internal working relationships across the matrix team and be accountable to regional Field Medical leadership for executing local medical strategies within timelines. Disseminate disease‑state and healthcare‑landscape information to field customers as defined by priorities. Provide clinical and data‑focused training for promotional and disease‑state speakers. Assist with Otsuka's clinical trials program, including registrational, post‑marketing and investigator‑sponsored trials, health‑economic outcomes research, and other collaborations to optimize site selection and performance. Mentor peers in functional and therapeutic development, including new hires. Support other departments such as Safety & Pharmacovigilance, Sales Training, and Field Medical Center of Excellence. Qualifications MD/DO, PharmD or PhD in life sciences required. Understanding of the interconnectivity of health systems, overall delivery of patient care, and experience working with healthcare professionals and decision makers. Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical industry Medical Affairs; prior CNS disease experience preferred. Strong business acumen, knowledge of the industry, Otsuka's business model, competitors, and marketplace dynamics; ability to identify solutions to improve patient outcomes. Excellent communication and collaboration skills with professional maturity and conflict‑resolution ability. Ability to lead project teams strategically. Ability to summarize and communicate complex information and business objectives concisely during presentations. Strong understanding of industry legal, regulatory, and compliance landscape. Ability to work in an ambiguous, transforming environment. Demonstrates behaviors aligned with the Otsuka Corporate Brand: perseverance, unconventional thinking, and humility. Travel up to 70% of time by air or car, depending on territory. Preferred living location is a key city in territory. Typical pay range is a starting pay for individuals hired for this role in the United States; actual pay may vary based on experience and skills.
