Assistant Athletic Trainer

The University of Texas at Dallas seeks an experienced and energetic athletic trainer who will, with the scope of licensure and legal boundaries, provide education, assessment, treatment and prevention services for athletic-related injuries and illnesses to assigned student-athletes, coaching staff, and members of the Athletic Department. The individual will assist in the day-to-day management of the athletic department's sports medicine operation and provide effective delivery of athletic training services.

Minimum Education and Experience - •A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Athletic Training, Physical Education, or a related field is required.•Must possess a current and valid State of Texas Athletic Training license OR be eligible to immediately obtain this licensure.•Must be certified in First-aid, CPR and AED use.•Southwest Athletic Trainers Association (SWATA) member if applicable•BOC License

Preferred Education and Experience - Master's degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Therapy, or a related field. One (1) year or more of athletic training experience in a collegiate, professional, secondary school, or similar athletic setting. Experience providing injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play services for athletes. Experience coordinating medical coverage for practices, competitions, and team travel. Experience working collaboratively with physicians, healthcare providers, coaches, administrators, and student-athletes. Experience maintaining electronic medical records and implementing injury prevention, rehabilitation, or health education programs. Active participation in professional athletic training organizations such as NATA or SWATA. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of athletic training principles, sports medicine practices, emergency care procedures, and NCAA Division II regulations. Strong clinical skills in injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play decision-making. Ability to coordinate care and communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, parents/guardians, healthcare providers, and University personnel. Ability to maintain accurate, confidential, and compliant medical records and documentation. Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders. Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive information. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and function effectively as part of a team. Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and standard business software. Ability to maintain required certifications, licensure, and professional competencies throughout employment.

Other Qualifications - To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Comply with all applicable University policies and procedures, as well as NCAA, conference, and professional athletic training regulations, standards, and ethical guidelines. Represent the University professionally at practices, competitions, team travel, meetings, conferences, and community events. Assist with the daily operations, organization, and maintenance of athletic training facilities and equipment. Coordinate and provide comprehensive athletic training services for assigned sports, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, practice coverage, event coverage, and team travel support. Deliver education and counseling to student-athletes regarding injuries, illnesses, treatment plans, and overall health and wellness. Maintain accurate, current, confidential, and compliant medical records and documentation. Serve as a liaison between student-athletes, team physicians, healthcare providers, coaches, and athletic department personnel to ensure continuity of care. Coordinate referrals and medical treatment plans with physicians and other healthcare professionals as appropriate. Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, athletic department staff, and sports medicine personnel regarding health and participation status. Educate coaches and athletic department staff on First Aid, CPR, AED usage, and Emergency Action Plans. Foster positive working relationships with athletic department leadership, coaches, student-athletes, faculty, staff, and campus partners. Participate in professional development activities and remain active within the athletic training profession. Maintain all required professional certifications, licenses, and credentials throughout employment. Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Director of Athletics.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions - Ability to work extended hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays during athletic seasons. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to travel on buses or vans for extended periods. Ability to stand outdoors for prolonged periods. Outdoor sports assignments may require working in hot, cold, or other varying weather conditions. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to adapt to changing schedules and operational needs.
