Campus Police Officer
This position provides public safety, law enforcement, and security services for the Campus Police Department including facilities and properties owned and/or operated by Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC); patrols the jurisdiction by foot, motorized vehicle, bicycle, and CCTV surveillance. Employee is a current police officer with an Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) Certified Peace Officer credential; is able to effectively and efficiently perform the duties of the position with minimal immediate supervision; and requires a service-oriented attitude, flexibility, ability to exercise discretion, and a strong moral and ethical character. This position is safety sensitive and subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.

Minimum Education/Experience: H.S. Diploma/GED, Current CLEET Peace Officer Certification, COPS Certification (college transcript required for COPS), or CLEET recognized reciprocity for Law Enforcement certification from another State Training Council; holds and maintains a valid Oklahoma driver's license; attends annual Campus Security Authority (CSA) training; completes the National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within the first 90 days of employment (subject to class availability) of IS-100.HE, IS-200.a, IS-700.a, and IS-800.b.; and completes OCCC Campus Police Field Training Program.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge: Safety and security requirements; Law enforcement rules and regulations; CLEET certification. Skills: Using safety equipment including respirators; and completing CLEET shotgun course and qualifying in using weapons. Abilities: Effectively respond to inquiry, give direction to, and control people using oral communication skills under various conditions; effectively organize accurate, complete, and legible written or text communications; exercise good judgment and make critical decisions under routine, moderate, and highly challenging conditions; remain calm, patient, and composed while exercising tact in dealing with uncooperative persons or people presenting challenging interpersonal situations; recognize and effectively respond to threats to self and others; perform duties while wearing the Department's specified uniform and equipment; successfully complete annual respirator fit test; work effectively as a member of a team; follow appropriate directions of supervisors; and demonstrate positive character traits and act accordingly.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions: The work is medium work which requires the person in this position to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: This position requires the person to frequently move about the various OCCC campuses. This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, faculty, staff, students, guests, and others to perform the essential functions of the position; must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations. This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position. This position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, stairs, etc. to perform the essential functions of the position. This position requires the person to frequently position self to move, lift, push, pull, operate and/or inspect equipment, to assist individuals, and/or apprehend subjects. This position requires the person to frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level. This position requires the person to use upper and lower body to exert force up to 100 pounds to grasp, push, pull or lift materials or equipment. This position requires the person to perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and/or other equipment and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position. This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands, wrists, and/or fingers. This position requires the person to judge, observe, and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned, to make general observations, and/or operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; when working outdoors, subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees) and extreme hot temperatures (temperatures above 100 degrees); and the workplace and College vehicles are tobacco-free settings. May be exposed to infectious diseases and/or ambient noise levels; frequently exposed to hazards such as: vibrations; close proximity to moving mechanical parts and moving vehicles; electrical current; working on scaffolding and high places; exposure to high heat; exposure to chemicals, oils, and/or other cutting fluids; exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases; and occasionally wears a respirator. Frequently performs essential functions in close quarters; crawl spaces; shafts; small, enclosed rooms; small water line pipes; and narrow aisles or passageways. Occasionally required to function around prisoners, mental patients, or agitated, hostile individuals. Work is performed dealing with crisis situations that require making decisions involving people, resources, and property. The Campus Police Department operates 24 hours per day each day of the year; normal work shift is 8 hours; and may be assigned to any shift to meet the needs of the Department.
Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of continuous full-time law enforcement experience, with service time within 24 months of application including previous law enforcement work experience on a college campus. Bilingual; CPR Certification; CLEET Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Instructor, Custody and Defensive Tactics (CDT) Instructor certifications.
Required Training: Serve in a critical role in the OCCC emergency management plan. An employee in this position must complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within the first 90 days of employment (subject to class availability) and on a continuing basis as required. The specific courses to be completed within 90 days of employment in this position include: IS-100.HE, IS-200, IS-700.a, IS-800.b. Successful completion of OCCC Campus Police Field Training Program. Annual Campus Security Authority (CSA) Training.
Work Hours: The OCCC Campus Police Department operates 24 hours per day each day of the year. Selected candidate may be assigned to any shift to meet the needs of the department. Normal work shift is 8 hours.

Job Duties (Position Specific): Adheres to the policies of the Police Department regarding personal hygiene, dress, and appearance requirements while on duty including standards and limitations set for areas such as uniform apparel and condition, hair cut styles and lengths, facial hair, body tattooing, and piercing; works under various weather conditions. Attends pre-shift activity briefing upon arrival for duty; asks questions; and participates in required departmental training and assignment discussions. Responds to routine public safety service requests, inquiries, complaints, mental health situations, alarms, and emergency messages. Identifies and recognizes criminal acts; issues warnings and citations; makes arrests when appropriate; and enforces state statutes and school policies. Effectively and legibly communicates facts and circumstances of personal observations, readings, or received information on activity, incident, or accident report forms; follows established protocol regarding notification of campus personnel and patrons in the event of emergencies. Provides assistance to campus staff and patrons with safety escorts, battery jumps, and vehicle lock outs; receives visitors; assists students; answers questions; provides property and asset protection by locking/unlocking areas of jurisdiction including classrooms and monitoring alarm points; patrols campus (by foot and car); looks for anything suspicious; documents security concerns; provides traffic control, traffic stops, and parking enforcement; and issues oral or written warnings when able or written citations when enforcement action is appropriate.
