Work Hours/Days: Part-Time

Typical Calendar Days Per Year: 10 Month

About Us: Banning Lewis Prep Academy, serving grades 6–12, is one of two campuses (Banning Lewis Ranch Academy-K–5 is the other), is a tuition-free public charter school authorized by District 49, proudly serving the Banning Lewis Ranch community and surrounding neighborhoods in northeastern Colorado Springs. Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to perform physical labor, including standing, lifting, bending, and repetitive cleaning tasks. Ability to pass required background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous custodial or facilities maintenance experience. Knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, and facility safety practices. Experience working in a school or large facility environment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

School-wide facilities including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gyms, and outdoor areas. Requires standing for long periods, walking, lifting supplies, bending, and performing repetitive cleaning and maintenance tasks. 

Position Overview

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment that supports student learning and staff effectiveness. This role ensures all areas of the school are properly cleaned, sanitized, and maintained while also assisting with facility support tasks and event preparation as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Cleaning & Facility Maintenance

• Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas
• Perform routine floor care, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and buffing
• Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the building 
• Maintain cleanliness of high-traffic areas throughout the school

Assessment & Feedback (Facility Monitoring)

• Conduct regular inspections of assigned areas for cleanliness and safety
• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or repair needs promptly
• Monitor supply levels and communicate restocking needs
• Ensure cleaning standards are consistently met across assigned areas
• Document completed tasks and report discrepancies as needed

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all safety protocols for cleaning chemicals and equipment use
• Maintain proper storage and handling of custodial supplies
• Support school safety procedures and emergency cleaning responses
• Ensure compliance with district and school facility standards

Operational & Event Support

• Assist with setup and cleanup for school events and activities
• Support seasonal maintenance tasks (snow removal, grounds care, etc.)
• Respond to custodial requests from administration and staff
• Maintain custodial equipment and supply organization

Collaboration & Communication

• Communicate facility concerns to administration or facilities leadership
• Coordinate with staff to minimize disruption during school hours
• Work collaboratively with other custodial and operational staff
• Support a positive, respectful, and professional school environment
