Job TitleHeavy Equipment OperatorJob SummaryUnder general supervision, the Heavy Equipment Operator assists crews in constructing, maintaining, and repairing City streets and drainage systems by operating a variety of heavy equipment.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential functions may include operating equipment for street maintenance and drainage repairs, mixing and loading stabilized material into dump trucks, assisting with the setup of barricades and other traffic control around work sites, checking the elevations of ditches and streets to ensure proper drainage and water flow, shoveling debris and other materials at job sites, participating in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and shop areas, reading, measuring, and calculating types and sizes of materials needed, and other duties as assigned.Physical and Environmental ConditionsWork is performed outdoors and requires exposure to inclement weather conditions, potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery, and hazardous chemicals. May be required to traverse uneven surfaces, climb ladders, and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.Required Qualifications• High School diploma or GED. • Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment; OR equivalent combination of training and experience. • Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement within twelve (12) months of hire. • Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances. • Work safety and safety set up policies, procedures, and practices. • Tools, materials, methods, and equipment used in streets and drainage constructions and maintenance. • Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines. • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.BenefitsThe City of Victoria offers a complete benefits package to full-time employees that includes but not limited to: health, dental and vision insurance, Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Savings Account (HSA), Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 2:1 City match, short and long-term disability, holidays, vacation, sick leave, paid parental leave, longevity pay and credit union.
