Job Purpose
The Teaching Artist and Education Program Manager - TYA School Engagement works with the Education and Community Engagement team, Teaching Artists, Program Managers and department Directors to develop and deliver high quality theatre education for students of all ages, teachers, schools, school administration, corporations, community, and theatre professionals. Programming happens on site and off site in schools and community centers across the Denver Metro Area and occasionally statewide. This position works specifically to manage TYA school engagement and post-show workshops for Theatre for Young Audiences productions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach theatre-based curriculum to students ages three through adult
- Teach arts-integrated curriculum to students Pre-K through 12th grades
- Develop new curriculum for the breadth of DCPA Education offerings and teaching responsibilities:
- Development of curriculum is a combination of personal artistry/experience in collaboration with Executive Director and Director of Education and Curriculum Development and the DCPA Teaching Team.
- Collaboration with full-time faculty and part-time teaching artist team across all programs including opportunities for co-facilitation in supporting, bolstering, and advancing the mission of the DCPA, including the support of the breadth of programming for Education and Community Engagement initiatives.
- Coach students within one-on-one sessions to support private acting coaching programming.
- Design and deliver Saturday on-site classes, multi-week summer programming, and other workshops – onsite, in schools and communities.
- Support all EDUC&CE program initiatives including act as a primary teaching artist for the Book Stars program- preschool and kinder literacy, Bobby G High School Musical adjudication and workshops, arts integration deliverables, playwriting workshops and play readings, preshow workshops for the Theatre Company season, talkbacks, community workshops, DPS Shakespeare Festival workshops, and Drama Day facilitation
- Partner with organization mission driven work groups to support cross-departmental collaboration
- Schedule, plan, and manage all aspects of post-show workshops for the annual Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) production including – but not limited to:
- Partner with Group Sales staff to track details of schools attending TYA production and participating in post-show workshops including transportation details, number of students, number of chaperones, participation in workshops, need for lunch space, accessibility needs of students
- Oversight of and collaboration with TYA Welcome Team, managing arrival and departure of student groups, use of studio classrooms for lunch and workshops, support of House Management team
- Create daily report with all group details to inform decision making by House Management, Custodial, Security, and on-site Welcome Team
- Day of contact for participating schools to help coordinate arrivals and departure with House Management team and other DCPA staff
- Continued collaboration with the Executive Director of Education and Community Engagement and Director of Education and Curriculum Management on development and delivery of workshop
- In partnership with Director of Business Operations, collaborate with on site custodial team to ensure cleanliness of classroom studios, restrooms, and theatre lobby
- Scheduling Teaching Artists for on-site and off-site pre-show workshops. In partnership with Executive Director, identify Teaching Artists for workshop teaching team, train workshop curriculum, trouble shoot scheduling shifts
- Track, culminate and aggregate programmatic engagement and data.
Qualifications
- B.A., B.F.A, M.A. or M.F.A, degree in theatre, theatre education, education, or similar or equal professional experience.
- 3-5 years drama/theatre teaching experience required, including demonstrating proficiency in developing and teaching arts-integrated curriculum, teaching improvisation, articulating and teaching the breath of the theatre experience and the craft of acting
- Experience in a diversity of classrooms, programs, and ages.
- Strong writing and reporting skills required. Possess highly collaborative and organizational skills. Assessment proficiency preferred.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Well versed in working and collaborating with schools, teachers, schools districts and community partners
- Experience working with pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle school and high school students including devising and directing.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Excellent collaboration, speaking and communication skills
Working Conditions
Must be able to accommodate a highly varying schedule. Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends, Saturdays during the school year. Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel throughout Denver and the major metro area school districts, often multiple school sites each day. This position operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but in some classroom settings can be loud.
Compensation
$60,000.00 - $65,500.00 annually

The DCPA is located in Denver, CO and all roles are based at our on-site location: 1101 13th Street, Denver, CO 80204. Some roles at the DCPA may be eligible for hybrid work options. More information is available through the interview process.
