Welder I

The Welder I uses hand welding equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products. Duties and responsibilities include:

• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
• Verify that parts being used in welding process are consistent and proper to adhere to requirements per first piece produced
• Monitor quality to assure consistent and acceptable welds
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
• Review and interpret engineer change requests when needed and submit change requests to improve production
• Understand the amount of pieces that need to be welded per hour, required welded pieces per job, and be able to achieve those goals
• Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
• Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade
• Consists of using welding equipment such as MIG/TIG/Stick
• Keep the assigned workstation swept and cleaned as necessary; keep clutter and trip hazards out of work areas
• Use PPE, per training, as required for the specific task being performed
• Other jobs and/or duties as directed by fabrication supervisor

Qualifications: Interpret blueprints, welding symbols and layout instructions

• Education/Experience
• High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
• Technical certificate or vocational training in welding or equivalent of experience
