Requisition No: 877376 Agency: Business and Professional Regulation Title: Inspection Specialist – Division of Hotels & Restaurants, Elevator Safety Salary: $2,417.74 Bi‑weekly Locations: Clearwater, FL; Bradenton, FL; Saint Petersburg, FL; Sarasota, FL; Seabring, FL Work You Will Do As an elevator inspector for the Bureau of Elevator Safety, you will conduct monitoring and oversight inspections to enforce elevator safety codes, the National Electrical Code, and state building and life‑safety regulations. You will perform inspections of new building construction, existing and altered elevators, and enforce compliance with ASME A17.1, A17.3, Florida Statutes Chapter 399, and related regulations. Additional duties include accident inspections, compliance monitoring, issuing inspection reports, and performing callback inspections. You will assist contractors, architects, and building officials in resolving construction problems and represent the bureau in meetings related to elevator, building, or electrical codes. You will maintain accurate records, prepare reports for the electronic data processing system, and manage travel, mileage, and vehicle costs. The position requires 25% travel within Florida. Responsibilities Perform monitoring and oversight inspections of privately or contract‑worked elevator inspectors to ensure compliance with elevator safety codes and related regulations. Conduct inspections of 2‑stop exempt elevators and perform complaint inspections. Carry out accident inspections when required to determine safety status. Monitor compliance of sealed and delinquent elevators, issuing reports with violations and compliance timelines. Prepare and maintain inspection reports, daily activity logs, bi‑weekly leave and attendance reports, and monthly reports on inspection activities, travel costs, and operating expenses. Assist in resolving construction problems involving elevators with contractors, architects, building officials, fire officials, and elevator owners. Post notices of discontinuation of elevator operation and install seals on unsafe elevators. Represent the bureau in meetings concerning elevator, building, or electrical codes. Provide technical assistance on interpretations of elevator safety codes and related regulations. Qualifications Currently registered as a Certified Elevator Inspector (Florida) or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hiring. Qualified Elevator Inspector (National) in good standing. Valid driver’s license. Willingness to travel within Florida up to 25% of the time. Ability to collect, review, and verify inspection data; plan and organize work assignments; communicate effectively; establish and maintain working relationships; and work independently. Knowledge of ASME A17.1, relevant Florida statutes and administrative codes, and related policies and procedures. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Understanding and application of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, building, elevator, and structural inspections. Capability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Effective communication and relationship‑building skills. Ability to work independently and make sound technical judgments.
