ESCALON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, performs unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work on school buildings and equipment; assists in more highly skilled maintenance projects; does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION

May include, but not limited to:

1. Build cabinets, bookshelves, room partitions and utility sheds and other structures
2. Hang doors
3. Read blueprints
4. Mix and apply paints to interior and exterior surfaces
5. Assemble and dissemble scaffolding; remove and replace glass
6. Remove and replace asphalt, ceramic and acoustical tile, concrete, and plaster, patch and repair gutters and roofs (all types)
7. Repair and replace sprinklers
8. Repair door closers and panic hardware
9. Install and repair plumbing including broken pipes, clean plugged drains, flush sewer lines and replace and repair fixtures
10. Make electrical installations and repairs and do electrical circuit hook-ups
11. Inspect, install, clean and repair HVAC equipment
12. Remove, install, and repair playground equipment
13. Build and repair fences of various types
14. Set concrete forms, mix, pour, and finish concrete
15. Install and repair flooring
16. Install chalk and white boards
17. Repair furniture and equipment
18. Weld metals in the construction and/or repair of facilities and equipment
19. Use hand and power tools such as power nailers, power shears, drills, power and hand saws, jack hammers, and other equipment
20. Operate tractors, lifts, loaders, backhoes, forklifts, compactors, and other power equipment.
21. Perform related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and Application of:

Basic operations of tools and equipment, terms used in construction and building maintenance work; fundamentals of carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, glazing, and welding work; safe work practices, including safe usage of hazardous chemicals and/or materials.

Ability to:

• perform a wide variety of semi-skilled maintenance work
• operate automotive equipment and power tools safely and efficiently
• perform heavy manual labor
• follow oral and written instructions
• maintain simple records
• maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
• read fine print and to work efficiently and safely on a job site
• hear and speak to conduct normal in-person and telephone conversations
• body movement and the strength to perform heavy physical labor
• operate equipment and use hand tools, and handle and work with various materials and objects
• exert up to 100 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
• ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps
• walk or stand for extended periods.
• withstand exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by weather.

Education / Experience:

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience: Two years' experience performing a variety of skills and/or semi-skilled construction and/or maintenance work.

Proficiency in identified areas, such as millwork, electrical, plumbing, painting, or similar areas of work.

If required to operate a motor vehicle in the course of work, must possess the appropriate California operator's license and be insurable at the standard rate applied to the Escalon Unified School District.

Must meet District minimum requirements through practical and/or written examination.

Salary Level: 55 - Classified Salary Schedule
