About the Role
This is a founding engineering role at a seed-stage legal AI company, where you'll build core product features from the ground up alongside attorneys and AI engineers. You'll help shape the engineering culture and technical standards that the entire team will grow around — shipping software that directly transforms how legal work gets done.
What You'll DoBuild and own full-stack product features, from data models to attorney- and client-facing interfaces.
Partner with AI engineers and attorneys to translate legal workflows and contract review playbooks into reliable, production-grade software.
Make pragmatic architecture and tooling decisions that balance speed now with maintainability later.
Write clean, reliable code and take complete ownership of features in production.
Help define engineering culture, coding standards, and hiring practices as the team scales.
Move work across the finish line with a customer-first mindset in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment.
1–3 years of experience building and shipping production software, ideally at an early-stage startup or as a founder.
Strong full-stack ability: TypeScript/React on the front end, a modern backend stack, and relational databases.
Hands-on experience building with AI/LLMs — in production or personal projects.
A track record of owning features end-to-end, from conception through deployment.
Experience making sound engineering trade-offs and architecture decisions under time pressure.
Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to thrive with minimal process.
Strong product instincts, entrepreneurial mindset, and a high bar for your own work.
Nice to have: experience in legal tech, contract management, or document processing; working directly with domain experts to turn complex workflows into software; modern DevOps and CI/CD practices.
Salary: $140,000 – $180,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
LocationOn-site, full-time in San Francisco, CA .
