Diagnostic Medical Sonography Professor - Full-time Tenure-Track

Full‑Time Tenure‑Track Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Professor – Healthcare Pathway Tacoma Community College, a public associate‑ and bachelor’s‑granting institution located in the Puget Sound area, is seeking a faculty member to develop, prepare, and deliver instruction in diagnostic medical sonography across classroom, skills lab, and clinical settings. This position reports directly to the Dean of Healthcare. Essential Functions Prepare and teach Associate‑level curriculum in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, including didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction. Collaborate with the program director and faculty on curriculum and program development, incorporating current educational theories, research, and innovative instructional approaches. Develop and utilize instructional strategies appropriate for in‑person, hybrid, and online learning environments. Employ innovative and inclusive teaching methods to engage a diverse student population. Identify equipment needs and advocate for a current laboratory environment. Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student success. Collaborate with an advisory committee of community partners to keep curriculum relevant to local industry. Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback using program criteria and expectations. Maintain regular office hours according to the current CBA to support student retention and success. Utilize learning management systems (Canvas, etc.) and other learning technology to elevate teaching and learning. Develop and foster community partnerships. Support division/department goals. Actively participate in departmental responsibilities, including curriculum review, program development, and faculty meetings. Serve on college committees and participate in college governance. Participate in the college’s professional development and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion events and training. Collaborate with program director to ensure program compliance with accreditation standards and maintain communication with accrediting bodies (CAAHEP and JRC‑DMS). Meet institutional accreditation standards for areas of instructional responsibility and participate in overall college accreditation processes. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography educational program. Associate’s Degree or higher in a related field. Current ARDMS certification with Abdomen and OB/GYN credentials. At least 3 years of recent clinical experience as a sonographer. Documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance, and educational theories and techniques. Current BLS, CPR, or AED certification. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field (or in progress). Full‑time teaching experience in a DMS program, including clinical coordination and curriculum development. Demonstrated experience in development and implementation of DMS curriculum and related instructional activities. Experience with CAAHEP/JRC‑DMS accreditation processes. Credentials as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS). Salary range: $70,262 to $83,762 (subject to COLA).
