Coordinator, Aquatics & Safety

Job Summary The Aquatics Coordinator works directly with the Associate Director of Facility Operations to oversee all aspects of the aquatics program, including open recreation swim, private swim lessons, specialty aquatics-based programs, summer youth and community aquatics programs, and pool events. The role also manages day‑to‑day operations for Penn Campus Recreation’s aquatic facility, the Sheerr Pool, supervises lifeguards and swim instructor staff, leads all Red Cross lifeguard certification courses for staff and external customers, assesses risk management for the facility, manages Red Cross certifications for campus recreation staff, and may instruct aquatic programming classes or cover lifeguard shifts as needed. Responsibilities Program delivery, evaluation, promotion, and reporting of innovative and traditional aquatics programs; develop schedules, register participants, and facilitate participant development. Staff orientation, shift trade approval, job posting, interviewing, hiring, payroll management, scheduling, safety audits, guard and instructor roster management. Facility management: maintain CPO and PA Pesticide License; conduct daily walk‑throughs, report facility issues, inspect inventory, manage pool access lists, coordinate with Varsity Swimming & Diving, maintain chemical logs, and set up and break down long‑course pools. Risk management: maintain American Red Cross LGI and Lifeguarding certifications, review policies and procedures, audit staff, manage CPR/AED/First Aid certifications, schedule trainings, and maintain first aid kit inventory. Administration and communication: monitor interest forms, assist marketing, handle program sales, collect data, manage client data, and send follow‑up surveys. Budget management: assist in preparation, presentation, and implementation of the aquatics programming budget; monitor expenses and revenue goals. Assist with setup and operation of special events or programs within Campus Recreation and/or Athletics as needed. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor of Arts and 2–3 years of experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in university recreation preferred. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Emergency Oxygen certifications. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
