Step into a rewarding contract opportunity working as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting elementary students for the 2026-2027 school year. Your skills will make a difference every day as you create accessible learning experiences for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This onsite position follows a school-day schedule, Monday through Friday, from 7:00am to 2:30pm, totaling 35 hours per week. You’ll work closely with the school team to ensure seamless communication and support for your assigned student at Troutman Elementary.
Qualifications:
- Valid licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
- EIPA score of 3.5 or higher required; those with RID certification may also be eligible regardless of EIPA score
- Experience working in educational settings, especially with elementary caseloads, preferred
- Ability to arrive prior to student arrival and be present throughout the school day
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to maintaining professional standards and confidentiality
Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, interactions, and school activities for the assigned student
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to support an inclusive environment
- Accurately translate spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and voice interpret for the student
- Prepare for each school day and assist with student arrival
- Maintain records and documentation as required
- Participate in school meetings related to the student’s educational plan
