Service Level II Technician

Service Level II Pool Technician Department: Service & Repairs Reports To: Lead Technician Position Summary The Service Level II Pool Technician is responsible for performing weekly residential and light commercial pool service along an assigned route, including testing and balancing water chemistry, cleaning and maintaining equipment, completing digital service documentation, performing filter cleans, and completing approved smaller pool repairs. This position builds upon the skills and responsibilities of a Service Level I Technician. Service Level II Technicians are expected to demonstrate strong knowledge of pool service, equipment operation, water chemistry, and company procedures while working with greater independence and taking on additional repair and maintenance responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Water Chemistry & Testing Test and balance water chemistry each visit (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium, CYA). Apply the Langelier Saturation Index (LSI) and dose chemicals to bring water into balance. Recognize and correct corrosive or scaling conditions. Adjust chemistry approach seasonally (summer vs. winter targets). Identify unusual chemical conditions and create Tech Concerns/work orders when additional attention is needed. Equipment Operation & Maintenance Prime pumps and confirm full flow, not just water present, before leaving a site. Operate and adjust valves, actuators, and automation/timers. Read the sight glass and backwash filters at the correct pump speed. Add the correct amount and placement of filter media (DE) after backwashing. Check filter pressure against baseline and identify potential issues. Recognize common equipment problems and determine when a repair or work order is needed. Perform approved minor equipment repairs within the technician's training and skill level. Filter Cleaning Perform scheduled cartridge, DE, and other approved filter cleans according to company procedures. Properly disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble filter components. Identify damaged, worn, or failing filter components and report concerns. Properly dispose of or replace filter media when applicable. Document filter cleans and any recommended repairs with photos and service notes. Small Repairs Complete approved minor pool equipment repairs independently. Examples may include replacing O-rings, seals, baskets, lids, gauges, small plumbing components, and other approved service parts. Follow company procedures for diagnosing, repairing, and documenting equipment issues. Take before-and-after photos of repairs and accurately document parts used. Recognize when a repair is outside the technician's approved skill level and elevate to a Lead Technician or management. Do not perform repairs outside the technician's training or authorization. Cleaning & Route Service Brush pool walls, steps, and corners each visit. Net surface and bottom debris; empty skimmer and pump baskets. Vacuum manually and with Hammerhead/RipTide equipment. Follow gate/lockout protocol at every property. Complete inclement-weather service per company storm protocol (chemical and equipment check only, no pole work). Algae Prevention Maintain proper filtration, circulation, and sanitation to prevent algae growth. Recognize conditions that may contribute to algae and take appropriate corrective action. Communicate recurring or significant algae issues through the appropriate work order or Tech Concern process. Truck, Equipment & Safety Follow chemical safety protocol. Never mix chemicals; store and handle acid and chlorine separately. Use required PPE (gloves, eye protection) when handling chemicals. Keep the truck clean, organized, and secure. Maintain company tools and equipment and report maintenance needs promptly. Drive safely and follow GPS monitoring expectations, including no harsh braking, hard acceleration, or speeding. Follow lightning/thunder and inclement-weather protocols. Report incidents within 24 hours; call 911 then management for emergencies. Documentation & Administration Complete a service report with readings and a photo at every stop. Log parts used as Installed Items with photos for billing and inventory. Create Tech Concerns/work orders with photos when issues are found. Properly document all filter cleans and repairs performed. Manage the assigned route in Skimmer; use Microsoft Teams and Gusto as directed. Communicate clearly with the Lead Technician regarding repairs, equipment concerns, and customer needs. Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency as a Service Level 1 Technician. Working knowledge of pool service, water chemistry, filtration, circulation, and pool equipment. Ability to perform approved filter cleans and minor repairs. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail. Reliable and punctual. Professional customer-service skills. Ability to work independently. Comfortable using a smartphone, GPS, and mobile service software. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Performance Expectations Complete assigned routes consistently and efficiently. Maintain high-quality cleaning and water chemistry. Perform filter cleans correctly and according to company standards. Complete approved minor repairs safely and professionally. Accurately diagnose and report equipment concerns. Accurately document services, repairs, and parts used. Provide professional customer service. Safely handle chemicals and equipment. Maintain company vehicles, tools, and supplies. Recognize personal limitations and elevate when necessary. Continue developing technical knowledge and skills. Demonstrate readiness to take on additional responsibilities as they are assigned. Physical Requirements Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work around pools and equipment. Lift and carry service equipment, tools, filter components, and chemical containers. Work outdoors for extended periods. Safely handle pool chemicals. Enter and exit service vehicles frequently. Perform physical tasks associated with filter cleaning and minor equipment repairs. Career Path Service Level II is an advancement from Service Level I and is designed to prepare technicians for greater technical responsibility. Successful Service Level II Technicians may advance to Lead Technician and ultimately Technician Trainer. Compensation & Benefits Commission Based at $600 - $900/Weekly Plus Filter Clean Billable Hours.
