About Hyroad Energy 

Hyroad Energy is putting zero-emission Class 8 trucks to work. We operate and support the Nikola Tre fleet — both hydrogen fuel cell electric (FCEV) and battery electric (BEV) tractors — delivering Trucking-as-a-Service that bundles vehicles, maintenance, parts, software, and hydrogen fueling for fleet customers across the country. Our Katy, TX service center anchors our growing Houston-area operations, and we’re looking for experienced technicians who want to work on the most advanced heavy trucks on the road today. 

The Role 

As a Technician III, you’ll be a senior wrench at our Katy shop — the tech others come to when a truck is down and the fault isn’t obvious. You’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain Nikola Tre FCEV and BEV Class 8 tractors, working across high-voltage battery systems, fuel cell power modules, 700-bar hydrogen storage, thermal management, and conventional chassis systems. The role is based at our Katy location on a standard weekday schedule, with periodic field service travel to customer fleet sites when a truck can’t come to us. 

What You’ll Do 

• Perform advanced diagnostics on FCEV and BEV trucks using CAN-based tools (Vector hardware, CANalyzer or similar), OEM diagnostic software, and fault/DTC analysis — and see repairs through from triage to verified fix 
• Service and repair high-voltage systems: traction battery packs, inverters, e-axles, DC/DC converters, and HV distribution, following de-energization, lockout, and live-dead-live verification procedures 
• Service fuel cell systems and 700-bar hydrogen storage: fuel cell power modules, air compressors, hydrogen storage and tank management systems, coolant fill/degas procedures, and leak checks 
• Flash and update ECUs, support over-the-air (OTA) software campaigns, and verify software configurations post-update 
• Perform preventive maintenance, pre-delivery inspections (PDI), and repairs per TSBs and OEM service procedures 
• Road test vehicles and move Class 8 tractors on and around the facility 
• Document work thoroughly: work orders, diagnostic findings, parts usage, and customer-facing service reports 
• Mentor Level 1 and Level 2 technicians and help build shop best practices as the team grows 
• Travel periodically to customer sites for field diagnostics and repairs (company vehicle/travel provided) 

What You’ll Bring 

Required: 

• 5+ years of experience as a heavy-duty diesel or EV technician on Class 6–8 trucks (or equivalent combination of training and experience) 
• Hands-on high-voltage experience on EVs, hybrid, or fuel cell vehicles — or current HV certification with willingness to complete Hyroad’s HV and hydrogen safety training 
• Strong electrical diagnostic skills: reading wiring schematics, using a DMM and insulation/isolation tester, tracing CAN communication faults 
• Proficiency with laptop-based diagnostic tools and comfort learning new software platforms 
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record; Class A CDL strongly preferred (or ability to obtain within 90 days — required to road test and move trucks) 
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, work on your feet, and work in a shop and outdoor environment in appropriate PPE 
• High school diploma or GED; technical school or manufacturer training program preferred 

Preferred: 

• Direct experience with Nikola, Tesla Semi, Freightliner eM2/eCascadia, Volvo VNR Electric, Proterra battery systems, or similar zero-emission commercial vehicles 
• Hydrogen fuel systems or CNG high-pressure fuel systems experience 
• EPA 609 (MVAC) certification; FMCSA brake inspector qualification 
• Experience with Vector CAN tools, CANalyzer/CANoe, or similar network analysis tools 
• ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certifications (T-series)

• $35–$45 per hour, depending on experience and certifications
