SENIOR COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE

Senior Community Health NurseThe Department of Health in Pinellas has a Senior Community Health Nurse position open in the Medical Services Program. The successful applicant will work primarily in the Immunization, Family Planning and STD clinics and will evaluate clients in a variety of settings within the scope of Florida State and Federal guidelines. The successful applicant will work at the St Petersburg Health Department.Your Specific Responsibilities:Provides direct services to clients including; immunization, administration of ordered medications, pregnancy testing, tuberculosis testing and other testing or services which fall within nursing practiceOffers education and information on family planning methods and servicesCounsels clients on basic health promotion and risk behaviors, including but not limited to: communicable disease control, maternal and child health, family planning, nutrition, growth and development, safety and anticipatory guidanceAdvises and counsels clients on health promotion, STD & HIV risk reduction, and care and management of diseaseAssists nursing supervisor with clinic management, monitoring clinic flow and caseloadAfter training and under protocol, work as an RN STD clinician and be responsible for providing comprehensive STD assessments, managing clinical care, and ensuring proper treatment and follow-up of STD clients. This includes completing physical assessments, documenting health histories, and utilizing standard protocols for STD treatment and educate patients on STD risk reductionResponds promptly to emergency situations within the buildingCompletes assignments and functions independentlyFollows policies and procedures, including standing ordersMeets productivity expectations for this positionAssists examiners as neededAssists in review of electronic laboratory results and provides follow-up and case managementDocuments all observations and actions accurately utilizing the electronic record, and the Florida Shots RegistryComplies with HIPAA guidelines and the Florida Department of Health's Information Security Policy ensuring client information is secure 100% of the timeCovers at all health department clinics as neededPerforms other duties as requiredKeeps supervisor informedAttends staff meetings as requiredAttends training for personal and professional growthMeets annual training requirementsRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to prioritize responsibilitiesAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationshipsSkill in use of a personal computerKnowledge of patient confidentiality lawsUse multiple computer programs and software such as Microsoft office to retrieve and/or input data.Independent problem-solving skillsStrong verbal communication and listening skillsAbility to work effectively and cooperatively with othersAbility to manage diverse situationsQualifications:Minimum: Current active Florida nursing license or a multistate license from another compact state per The Florida Nurse Practice Act, as outlined in Chapter 464Current valid Florida Driver's License or able to obtain one within 30 days of employmentMaintain current CPR certification every two yearsWillingness to complete the required training to become a RN STD clinicianAt least one year experience working with an electronic medical recordAccess to private transportation and willing to travel to other locations and provide coverage as neededPreferred: At least one year experience working as a Registered NurseAt least one year experience working in a public health environmentBi-lingual in English and SpanishWhere You Will Work: St. Petersburg Health Department: 205 Dr MLK Jr St N, St. Petersburg FL 33701
