Counselor II: Solmar

Primary Duties and Responsibilities The Counselor II supports the SolMar Retreat and Hoag Addiction Treatment Center (HATC) treatment team in assessment, treatment planning, referral recommendations, discharge planning, education and direct therapeutic intervention for patients and their families throughout the course of treatment. Supports the goals of the patient’s treatment plan and assists in the clinical care and case management. Coordinates care with outside providers by referrals when necessary. Performs focused collaboration with the medical team, admissions and the utilization review team. Assists with admissions and discharges, ensuring all documents are signed. Conducts screenings/intake assessments as needed. Provides patients with an orientation about the program, rules and a tour of the unit. Intervenes as advocacy for clients to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations. Conducts group counseling sessions, facilitates lectures, documents patient care and group sessions, participates in case conferences and staff meetings, leads community meetings for clients, encourages participation in self-help groups, communicates with HCP/physician and Nurse Practitioner regarding orders, observes medication administration and documents in the EMR, documents daily living activities and vital information, records patient behaviors and informs supervisors of changes, and receives and presents shift reports. Qualifications Education and Experience High School Graduate or equivalent required. Associate degree in Behavioral Science or Allied Mental Health preferred. Two years minimum experience in addiction/behavioral health required. Three years experience in addiction/behavioral health environment preferred. Working knowledge of CARF and/or JCAHO accreditation standards required. Knowledge of the 12‑step, Smart Recovery and other treatment models required. Knowledge of HIPAA required. Knowledge of incidental medical services/MAT per IMS policies and procedures required. Certifications Required CATC II - Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor II CATC III - Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor III CATC IV - Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor IV CADC II - Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor II CADC III - Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor III LAADC - Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor BLS-AHA Basic Life Support required at hire. The CADC-CAS Certification is accepted and grandfathered for employees hired before 8/1/2021. These employees have one year to acquire the CATC II, or CADC II, or LAADC. Must have a current negative TB test and a health screen report or physician clearance prior to employment. The tuberculosis test shall be conducted under licensed medical supervision not more than 45 working days prior to employment and renewed annually from the date of the last TB test.
