Certified Medical Assistant

Medical AssistantPerforms patient care under the direction of the physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting. Responsibilities include being accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues, participating in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities, supporting and demonstrating effective and professional communication with patients and family members, working collaboratively with administrative and operations staff, gathering patient data through interview and observation, assisting patients and families with preparation for examination, assisting the physician or APP during examination and procedures, demonstrating competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice, providing routine treatments and administering approved medication types, documenting patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies, acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule and provide scheduling information for specialty testing and/or specialty physician consultation, processing incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment, entering medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under the direction of a provider, adhering to and assuring compliance with Orlando Health and department-specific policies, procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellent standards, consistently demonstrating personal and patient safety practices and adhering to infection control standards outlined in Orlando Health policies, maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, maintaining compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures, demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients in their assigned department and/or unit, demonstrating awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies, practicing efficient use of supplies, and assisting the business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
