We're Hiring: Controller / Director of Finance | Washington, DC (HYBRID)
We are assisting a highly respected, established boutique law firm who is seeking a Director of Finance to lead and manage its accounting operations with strategic insight and operational excellence.
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer & Treasurer
What You’ll Do
In this leadership role, you will:
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations including AP, AR, payroll, billing, and general ledger management
- Lead financial planning, reporting, and monthly/annual closings
- Present financials to management and identify profitability opportunities
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team (AP, Payroll, Billing, AR)
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial analysis
- Administer the firm’s accounting system and drive process improvements
- Coordinate tax filings and regulatory compliance with external CPAs
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership responsibilities
- Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment strongly preferred
- Deep understanding of cash-based accounting systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with benefit plan administration and 401(k) contribution analysis
- A hands-on, collaborative approach to financial leadership
- Passion for continuous improvement and internal control integrity
