Major document management company seeks Lead Print Operator who will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the print shop, ensuring efficient workflow management, exceptional customer service, high-quality production, and adherence to established deadlines. This role serves as the primary point of contact for production staff, assists with scheduling and prioritization of work, operates and maintains production equipment, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. The Lead Print Shop Operator provides guidance and training to team members while maintaining a safe, organized, and customer-focused environment. 

 

Key Responsibilities  



 



  Production Leadership  
-Coordinate and prioritize daily production activities to meet customer deadlines and service level expectations.
-Assign work and provide direction to print shop staff to ensure balanced workloads and efficient operations.
-Monitor production schedules and proactively address workflow bottlenecks.
-Ensure all jobs are completed accurately, on time, and according to customer specifications.
-Print and Finishing Operations Operate digital production printers, copiers, wide-format equipment, scanners, bindery, and finishing equipment.
-Perform quality control inspections throughout the production process.
-Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate service requests when necessary.
-Maintain inventory of paper, toner, finishing supplies, and other production materials.



 

Customer Service  
-Serve as the primary contact for customers regarding job requirements, timelines, and project updates.
-Review incoming requests for completeness and accuracy.
-Provide recommendations regarding print specifications, paper selection, finishing options, and production methods.
-Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.



 



  Team Leadership and Training  
-Provide training and mentoring to new and existing staff.
-Assist with onboarding, cross-training, and skill development initiatives.
-Promote teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service standards.
-Serve as a resource for staff regarding equipment operation and production procedures. 

 

Quality Assurance  
-Establish and maintain quality standards for all printed materials.
-Conduct final inspections of completed jobs.
-Ensure compliance with departmental procedures and documentation requirements.
-Monitor and improve production accuracy and efficiency metrics. 

 

Administrative Duties  
-Track production volumes, job status, and departmental performance metrics.
-Maintain accurate records of completed jobs, material usage, and equipment maintenance.
-Assist management with reporting, workload analysis, and process improvement initiatives.
-Support budget and supply management activities. 

 

Qualifications

Required 
-High School Diploma or GED.
-3-5 years of experience in a production print, copy center, or commercial print environment.
-Experience operating high-volume digital production equipment and finishing devices.
-Strong organizational and time management skills.
-Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and print management software. 

Preferred  
-Associate's degree in Graphic Communications, Business Administration, or related field.
-Experience leading or supervising staff. Knowledge of prepress workflows and design software such as Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, or Adobe Creative Suite.
-Experience with variable data printing and document management systems.

-Knowledge of workplace safety practices related to production environments. 

 

Physical Requirements  
-Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
-Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
-Ability to operate production equipment safely and efficiently.
Ability to perform repetitive motions associated with print production activities.
