Area Supervisor, School Nutrition Services (Food Service Funded)

Provide leadership, coaching, and operational oversight in accordance with federal, state, local, and district requirements. This position will supervise assigned campuses and provide guidance to develop high-performing managers and teams while ensuring compliant, efficient, financially responsible, and customer focused School Nutrition Services Department.

Qualifications/Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Food and Nutrition, Business Management, Hospitality Management, or other nutritional or business field strongly preferred
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible food service management, school nutrition, hospitality, or comparable operational leadership experience.
• K-12 school nutrition experience or experience in a multi-site food service operation preferred.
• State of Texas or ANSI accredited Food Service Manager's Certification preferred

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operations Management: Regularly observe operations during preparation and service to evaluate workflow, speed of service, food quality, presentation, customer experience, staffing deployment, cleanliness, organization, and overall execution.
• Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies governing School Nutrition Services programs administered under the United States Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agriculture.
• Coach, monitor, and hold managers accountable for maintaining and improving all aspects of daily kitchen operations, including scheduling, food production records, inventory control, HACCP procedures, organizational management, and compliance standards.
• Coach and support operations in delivering consistent customer experiences aligned with School Nutrition Services standards and brand.
• Conduct operational and compliance reviews to evaluate adherence to federal, state, local, district, and department standards related to food production, food safety, quality, and operational management.
• Utilize operational and financial data, including profit and loss reports, to evaluate participation, quality, staffing, productivity, efficiency, and cost; identify trends and opportunities; and develop, implement, and monitor action plans for improvement.
• Assist with the monitoring and evaluation of kitchen equipment needs. Recommend and implement standard operating procedures as needed.
• Support the development and implementation of marketing and promotional initiatives in all schools.
• Assume temporary operational or managerial responsibilities as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
• Personnel Management: Supervise, coach, develop, evaluate, and document employee performance.
• Develop managers to take ownership of their operations, identify problems, evaluate available information, determine appropriate solutions, and follow through on results.
• Work collaboratively with other Area Supervisors and department leadership to ensure consistent expectations, communication, coaching, and application of department standards across School Nutrition Services operations.
• Provide leadership and assistance across campuses when operational needs, staffing, training, or department priorities require support.
• Assess campus staffing and labor using meals-per-labor-hour and other operational measures and recommend adjustments when appropriate.
• Assist in developing and implementing employee training programs. Oversee training of managers and staff in kitchen procedures.
• Communication and District Support: Establish positive working relationships with district administrative leadership, principals, school staff, and all other SBISD departments.
• Communicate operational concerns, compliance risks, staffing needs, performance trends, and recommended solutions to department leadership in a timely manner.
• Other: Assist with equipment, training, employee management, financial support, technical support, events, HR functions, and other duties as assigned. Support SNS/SBISD through regular attendance. Meet required annual Professional Standards for School Nutrition Professionals. Attend workshops, training, and seminars to remain current on industry practices and developments. Participate in cross-training.
