Communications Internship

The Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) seeks a 6-month communications intern who will gain valuable experience working within a prominent sports union. The communications intern will be involved with the MLBPA's day-to-day media, public relations, and other activities, supporting the communications objectives of the Association's labor, licensing, and not-for-profit activities. This internship is full-time and will start in Fall and run through to Spring 2027.

Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

• News monitoring, general research (biographical, organizational, and topical)
• Drafting and editing issue summaries, analysis, and reports
• Distribution of press releases and maintenance of the department media list
• Other special communications projects as needed

Qualifications:

• Recent college graduate from an accredited university with a degree in public relations, communications, sports management, economics, English, or labor relations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Outstanding interpersonal skills
• Experience working with the Microsoft suite of programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and experience using the Internet as a communications and research tool.
• Knowledge of Major and Minor League Baseball Players
• Fluency in Spanish Preferred but not required

Location: Hybrid – New York City – Must be able to come into our office 3 days per week while working the other two days remotely. Hours are 9 am to 5 pm daily.

Salary: $20.00 per hour for BA Graduates and $30.00 per hour for MBA Graduates

About the Major League Baseball Players Association

The Major League Baseball Players Association is the union that represents Major League and Minor League Players, enabling them collectively to defend and advance their workplace conditions, benefits, rights, and common interests. It has a long and proud history of standing up for the rights of its members – past, present and future.

The MLBPA negotiates the terms and conditions of employment for Players under contract with Major League Clubs and defends their existing rights under the terms as set forth in the Basic Agreement (the collective bargaining agreement). The Association works closely with the union's Executive Board of Player representatives as well as the agents it certifies to represent MLB Players.

Under its business arm, MLB Players, Inc., the union markets the collective rights of MLB Players through the licensing of companies, sponsorship of brands that want to associate their products with Major Leaguers and the development of new initiatives. Player-licensed products include trading cards, collectibles, electronic games, digital, apparel and novelties.

The Association also oversees the operation and administration of the Players Trust, a charitable foundation that is the first of its kind in professional sports. Through the Players Trust, Major League Players contribute their time, money and celebrity to call attention to important issues and encourage others to get involved in their own communities.
