Facility: Baylor Scott and White Hospital- Brenham, TX Department: Emergency Department (ED) Job Title: RN Supervisor Shift/Status: Full Time, 40 hrs/wk Emergency Department Specifics Patient Population: Diverse population including pediatric and adult patients with acute and often complex emergencies. # of beds: 15 Patient Ratios: 1:4 Summary The Supervisor, Nursing Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for supervision of assigned nursing and unit-based personnel to provide a safe, caring environment for patients, family, and staff. The Supervisor oversees day-to-day operations and productivity, assists the Nursing Manager in planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and monitoring policies and procedures, budgets, resource allocation, quality and performance improvement initiatives, educational programs and shared governance councils to achieve departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Provides nursing care as needed. Essential Functions of the Role Clinical Judgment: Creates, fosters, and sustains a healthy work environment that supports evidence-based practice and research. Key Success Factors Knowledge and understanding of nursing and patient care standards and procedures. Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and standards of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies, and procedures governing nursing care. Knowledge of medical terminology; principles and practices of health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention and management; medications and drugs, common dosages, physical and physiological effects, and possible adverse reactions. Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to provide age‑specific, quality, patient‑centered care to all patients through the nursing process and standards of practice. Operational decision‑making regarding work processes, quality and productivity standards, and measurable goals. Resource allocation and budgeting skills. Effective hiring, termination, and human‑resource management. Policy evaluation and recommendation, establishing procedures that affect organizational management. General computer skills including Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email. Registered Nurse (RN) license. Minimum 2 years of experience.
