Currently, we are looking for one (1) Roman Catholic Religious Education (RE) Coordinator on an Air Force Base (AFB) in Georgia. Place of Performance: Base Chapel. Travel may be required. Work hours: During posted business hours, Monday through Friday, and 10:30–13:00 on Sundays (Aug–May). During the RE hiatus (Jun–Jul), the 15 hours will be accomplished Monday through Friday. The position requires federal background checks and fingerprints and a security clearance. Must be a member of a Middle Georgia Roman Catholic Faith Community or be willing to relocate to one. Primary Responsibilities Support services including 1st Reconciliation, 1st Communion, Confirmation, Bishop/First Communion, receptions (Christmas, Easter, Confirmation, and Communion), RCIA, and other retreats and workshops, including planning and attendance. Demonstrate professionalism and compassion in relations with the base community and parishioners. Demonstrate a commitment to the Air Force Base Roman Catholic Community (Our Lady of the Skies Catholic Parish) and its Religious Education (RE) Program through active participation and promotion of the ministry. Work cohesively in the interfaith environment of the Air Force Chaplaincy Program. Recruit, train, and assign all teachers, staff, helpers, substitutes, and students. Maintain monthly statistical attendance reports. Plan and resource a comprehensive plan of religious education for all ages (grades K–8 and High School) represented in the chapel setting through an annual calendar and budget. Activities include RCIA, Sacramental Classes (First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation), and related religious holidays, workshops, or assemblies. Publicize RE activities and events to base populations and parish members via newsletters, email, social media, announcements, flyers, local/base papers, information fairs, and organizational events. Attend required chapel meetings, such as staff meetings and Catholic Advisory Council meetings. Meet as needed with the Roman Catholic Chaplain or designee to coordinate planning and support of the RE program. Build and manage the RE library resources, including audio-visual equipment, books, and media; accomplish curriculum ordering and distribution. Advise the Roman Catholic Chaplain on current trends and needs of the religious communities for RE materials and ensure respect for all religious groups. Be responsible for submitting and following up on background checks on all volunteers working with children under 18 to the NCOIC of the chapel. Provide VIRTUS training to all volunteers, including teachers, substitutes, aides, helpers, and youth ministers. Arrange and maintain necessary classroom space with other base agencies when more space is needed. Ensure facilities are returned to the prescribed setup, cleaned, and secured upon departure. Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and Air Force Instructions; be accountable for paying any Social Security, Federal or Local income taxes, and State Unemployment Insurance premiums for oneself and any individual employed or subcontracted to provide services under this contract. Personally perform the duties or coordinate performance by a substitute of equal or higher proficiency in their absence, approved by the Roman Catholic Chaplain at least 14 days in advance. Required Knowledge and Skills Serve as a resource person, advisor, coordinator, and instructor of all Roman Catholic Religious Education at the AFB, GA. Must be a member of a Middle Georgia Roman Catholic Faith Community or willing to relocate to one. Shall be in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church (baptized, confirmed, and, if married, married in the Roman Catholic Church). Strong commitment to religious education as a mission of the Church. Familiarity with the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and general knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church, its teachings, traditions, and practices, as well as lectionary and doctrinal catechesis. Six years of experience directing a religious education program at a military installation and openness to working in the pluralistic environment of the Air Force Chaplaincy Program. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree. Experience in instructing all age groups and public speaking. Excellent telephone, keyboarding, and customer service skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to use a computer with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, and MS PowerPoint. Excellent written and verbal communication and public relations skills. Performance Objectives Advise, coordinate, and instruct Roman Catholic Religious Education with no more than 2 customer complaints per month. Recruit, train, and assign teachers, staff, helpers, substitutes, and students for Roman Catholic Religious Education with no more than 2 customer complaints per month. Required Security and Background Checks Must obtain favorable eligibility from a National Agency Check Inquiries (NACI) and National Agency Check Inquiries Child (CNACI) through the Chapel Security Manager. Per Department of Defense Instruction (DODI), each individual working with children under 18 must complete and pass a criminal history background check. Installation Record Check. FBI fingerprint check. Local Civilian Law Enforcement check. Ensure all volunteers working with/around children are properly vetted by the Chapel’s procedures; this may involve coordinating with base agencies and maintaining records of volunteer personnel.
