Corporate Tax Manager (Hybrid)
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Manage preparation and review of all federal, state, and local tax filings, including corporate income tax returns and related filings.
- Oversee pass-through entity reporting as applicable.
- Prepare and review estimated tax payments and ensure timely submissions.
- Manage sales and use tax, business personal property tax, and employment tax filings (940, 941, state unemployment).
- Oversee preparation and review of 1099 filings and other annual informational returns.
- Monitor payroll tax rates and ensure proper configuration and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Tax Provision & Financial Reporting
- Lead the quarterly and annual tax provision process in coordination with the accounting team.
- Ensure accurate reporting under GAAP for income taxes.
- Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives by providing tax-related insights.
- Research and analyze tax implications of new products, transactions, or structural changes.
Audit & Regulatory Coordination
- Serve as primary liaison for IRS and state tax audits.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors.
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to tax notices and regulatory inquiries.
- Monitor developments in federal and state tax legislation and assess impact to the organization.
Tax Research & Advisory
- Research complex tax matters and provide clear, actionable guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Interpret and apply federal and state tax regulations relevant to the asset management industry.
- Provide internal consulting to accounting, finance, HR, and operations teams on tax-related matters.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and areas of risk mitigation.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Manage and optimize tax software systems (e.g., CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement or similar platforms).
- Ensure integrity and accuracy of tax data across systems.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and controls.
- Partner with Accounting and IT on system enhancements and automation initiatives related to tax processes.
- Support internal control documentation and compliance initiatives.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Oversee and review work performed by tax staff or senior accountants, if applicable.
- Establish performance expectations and contribute to professional development of team members.
- Maintain strong cross-functional relationships across Accounting, Finance, Legal, and HR.
- Support broader departmental initiatives and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
- 5+ years of progressive tax experience in corporate tax compliance and reporting.
- Strong experience with federal and state income tax compliance.
- Experience with pass-through entities (1065, 1120-S).
- Experience with employment tax filings (940, 941 and related state filings).
- Strong understanding of GAAP financial reporting and tax provision processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with major tax software platforms (CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement or comparable systems).
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- CPA license strongly preferred (CPA candidate considered).
- Experience in asset management, financial services, or investment advisory industry.
- Experience supporting audits and regulatory examinations.
- Experience with system implementations or conversions.
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred).
