A lot of partners in Florida insurance defense have the first and very little of the second. They sign off on other people's strategies, manage someone else's client relationships and wait for a succession plan that never quite arrives.

I'm Ryan Jaiswal from Distinct Recruitment, and I'm hiring a bodily injury defense partner in Tampa on behalf of a client firm. This is a role for someone who wants to run a practice, lead trials and be the person carriers call first.

What you'd be doing:

• Leading a docket of bodily injury and personal injury defense matters, from catastrophic claims to high volume portfolios

• First chairing trials and setting strategy on the files that matter most

• Owning carrier and client relationships, and growing them

• Supervising and developing associates and counsel, including how they handle depositions, hearings and trial

• Shaping how the Tampa team works day to day

What you'd bring:

• Significant Florida bodily injury defense experience, including trial work

• Florida Bar license in good standing

• A portable book of business is preferred, but it is not required. Strong carrier relationships and a solid trial record matter just as much

• The ability to lead a team without micromanaging it

The terms:

• $200,000+, negotiable depending on book

• 1,950 billable hours

• Hybrid working in Tampa

• A partnership that comes with real authority over your cases

A note on the book question, because it's the first thing most partners ask. Many excellent defense lawyers have spent their careers servicing institutional clients rather than building portable business. That doesn't make them less valuable; it makes them experienced. If that's you, the conversation is still very much worth having.

What separates a good partner move from a disappointing one is usually clarity: what you'll own, who you'll answer to, how origination is treated and where the work comes from. I'll walk you through all of that privately before you decide anything.
